Feb 01 AT 3:40 PM Clark Wimberly 528 Comments (CLOSED)

The week is half over and that means the ref’s whistle just sounded and the first annual Android Bowl has officially reached halftime! If you have not been keeping up, we’ve paired with @NVIDIAtegra to give away three Transformer Prime tablets, complete with quad-core processing power and a keyboard dock to boot.

The bad news is that a bunch of you guys seemed to miss the theme- nay, the spirit of the first post. We’re just using the timing of the big football game to try to parallel a battle between Android brands. While some of you got this, most of you guys tweeted and commented about the actual football teams.

Not that we don’t love some football, but the Android Bowl is about Android. We’re looking to find the brands, carriers, and manufacturers that you guys most trust and enjoy. To play along, you visit the Edit account page and select a carrier and manufacturer. When talking trash and sharing the link, root for your Android team!

Halftime stats

To keep the ball moving, we’re going to share a peek at a few of the Android Bowl stats we’ve racked up so far. We’re not only tracking the number of users each team has, we’re keeping tallies of the actual score and rank of each user, allowing us to make some interesting comparisons.

For instance, even though Verizon is in the top carrier slot by number of users, the And Me Accounts belonging to team T-Mobile actually have a higher average rank. In addition to monitoring the top performers, we’re also keeping a close eye on the bottom of the pack. Motorola currently has the lowest average rank among manufacturers with at least 100 users, while some teams like Amazon don’t have even a single member (no Kindle Fire fans?).

We’ll be back at the close of the Android Bowl to share all the stats you guys created, but we thought halftime might be a good time to head to the locker room and rally your team. Bragging rights are at stake. Is your carrier or manufacturer going to come out on top? If you’d like to talk trash, make predictions, or try to convince your friend to join your team, we’ve left a preloaded tweet box below:

Oh yeah, and the free Primes?

We’re picking a winner from a random comment from each day (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) who will receive a Transformer Prime, with dock, direct from @NVIDIAtegra. We already closed comments on Day 1, comments here will be live (if you’ve entered a carrier and manufacturer) until our next post comes on Friday. Break!

Would love a new tablet :)

Been with Verizon for 10+ years, could never go anywhere else due to the coverage. Long live Verizon (I felt dirty saying that, but oh well).

      Same here my friend.

Samsung is good but HTC understands how to polish a phone.

  • http://www.spencerpablophotography.com spthealien

Stoked they now have AT&T LTE in San Diego, now to unleash the LTE phones!

  • MathiasGS

Had some bad experiences with HTC and updating older devices… At least Samsung got the Nexus’s…

  • buycat

I want one. Thanks in advance.

  • WallaceD

    Where’s the Moto love?

  • bug_monster

Best tablet out there. Need one.

  • Motjida

Samsung is defo the top Android player these days, shame they force TouchWiz down your throat rather than going vanilla.

  • Karlnorway

I would so like to own the latest transformer prime.

  • Brook Marin

Like I said in the first post: “this should make for some interesting infographics about your “average” visitor… looking forward to seeing some of those stats..”

Glad to see some of the interesting stats, like how us Team T-mo fans love us some blog posts!!

Now i just wonder how many Team LG peeps there are… I know they have had some issues in the past, but I have to applaud them on their aggressiveness with Nvidia!

  • jazkaos

Verizon has the best service and customer support hands down. Motorola OG droid rocks.

  • Alex Vidrean

Would love to finally get my hands on a high end tablet like this.

  • http://demiadejuyigbe.com Demi Adejuyigbe

I’m genuinely surprised at the amount of love Samsung’s getting here. I’ve had a ridiculous amount of Samsung phones and they’ve always had poorly built hardware and support, and lately they’ve been putting their stupid TouchWiz software on everything. I like my Galaxy Tab, but it’s built so stupidly and is often so slow and clunky that I have to wonder if Samsung is doing all of these things on purpose.

HTC, however, has never done me wrong. I’ve had my Nexus One for over two years now, and it still works well and hasn’t broken once. Team HTC all the way.

    • Shadowlore

Which Galaxy Tab you referring to? The original was a bit ‘meh’, but the newer (10.1 and newer) ones seem to be stellar.

  • technoveg

Verizon although expensive, has been so solid for me. Love my 4g Xoom and GNex. I wish I could upgrade to a 4G Transformer! If only that existed…

  • NexusHero

Samsung is easily my favorite manufacturer..

  • squintyboy

  • Dave Clary

I’m a member of two teams–Verizon and Sprint. Whichever bring LTE to Corpus Christi Texas will be my winner!

  • cfvonner

Like my Verizon Droid X… But, as soon as I qualify for an upgrade, it’s gonna be either a Motorola Razr MAXX, a Samsung Galaxy Nexus, or whatever the baddest quad-core phone on offer is.

No loyalty!! I’m a fair weather smartphone fan! :D

  • Bigtop77

I’m still sooooo in love with my galaxy nexus. It was a major step up from my OG Droid.

  • andrew9bernard

    Love my Galaxy Nexus

Gotta love Sprints unlimited everything plan for 79.99$ and no one makes sexier devices than HTC!

  • techvudu

BlackJack, BJ 2, Vibrant, Galaxy Tab, SGS2..Loving both the mobile stuff and the home appliances. I’m proud to sport my Samsung colors.

  • Seeandfeel

Vodafone here.. – but i change the Carrier after my Contract runs out… :P ! Thx for the “Bowl” ;)

  • motzvi

Sprints pricing keeps me with them and HTC has so far proven to come up with the updates quicker then Samsung, so for now I’m staying HTC!

  • http://nickvettesephotography.com Nicholas Vettese

Can’t get wrong with a Samsung device, and the Galaxy Nexus is Grade A Prime.

  • OutofPlace

I left Cellular One to go to T-Mobile many, many years ago and never really looked back. Plus, I have to say that T-Mo has been doing some pretty great things here in Chicago with its network. I’ve noticed far stronger, more consistent signals along my commute over the last few months on the trains.

  • Nolan Meilinger

Go At&t and Pantech! Rocking a Pantech Matrix since 2008! It’s a tank, and can side both ways! (dialer and full QWERTY) Some may call it a brick, but hey, where would we be without bricks? Gotta love old phones :)

  • Olliedcy

Can’t decide between my Moto Xoom or my Samsung phone…….

  • lancaster09

Yeah I was definitely confused by the Android Bowl name and everyone picking football teams…but I followed suit like a lemming off the cliff.

To really answer the question: You have to go with HTC the creator of the Nexus One and many other great devices. Let’s not forget our history here.

You also cant beat T-Mos affordability

  • Nolan Meilinger

I really hope I win. My girl thinks she is “King Beef” because she had an iPad 2. I would used the Prime to search the internet for a new girlfriend that isn’t as such a jerk.

    • spacebar2012

LOL.. but you search for a gf on the interwebz..? o_0

  • alexanderharri3

Looking forward to an HTC comeback in 2012, though the GSIII will be a tough contender.

    • spacebar2012

Have you seen the Ville? Comeback looks so unlikely.. they’ve lost their mojo.. unfortunately!

  • platta13

Love my B&n Nookcolor running ICS…. But would love the ASUS would be much better.

  • spacebar2012

I’m still on the OG Galaxy S running MIUI with some thorough ICS theming sweetness and waiting for the mighty GS III to show face! :)

Tablets have been out of my budget so far but a Prime as a prize/gift would be such a sweet start to a year that’s, in many ways, a very important one in my life & career.

  • sanbient

T-mobile will always have my heart.

  • mobilserver

    HTC on Verizon FTW.

  • glenton

Ok… I like the Patriots and T-mobile and Samsung..

  • SuperSixTwo

    Samsung GNex on VZW!

  • peekay5000

    HTC all the way !!

  • jakymiwm

    HTC all the way!

  • smithmark02

Verizon for the past 10+ years. Thought about jumping to Sprint but those I know of with Sprint complain about the coverage for where I live.

Loving my Samsung Galaxy Nexus but then again I did replace an original Moto Droid.

  • http://ps-udad.blogspot.com/ ld6772

I’ve been HTC since the G1, but I’m very tempted by the samsung devices that are out now.

  • surg3d

Love the “heft” and attention to detail in HTC devices, although Samsung is starting to catch my attention too. Also, Sprint FTW- relatively cheap + unlimited data!

  • Edward Peichel

I love my Droid Bionic! Isn’t the best or fastest anymore, but 4G LTE and a dual core processor still have it at the forefront of technology, at least for another couple days…

  • pepperonijack

I choosed Team Samsung because there was no Team Google (or Nexus). That being said, the Galaxy and Galaxy II were awesome phones, so Samsung has my support.

  • CheekyBroad

I have been a long time T-Mobile customer and I still love them. As for manufacturer, I have to go with HTC. I do love Samsung as well, but every Samsung phone I have had I had to replace only after a year without ever dropping or damaging it.

  • dotero

My vote goes again to Asus & Vodafone

  • pudgypanda3

Go Samsung! my second runner up is HTC.

  • GeauxLSU

Maybe once Google takes over Motorola, they will move up in the rankings.

  • sonicshorz

Yessir..It’s Samsung just cause of the coolness factor. Who knows who the favorite sill be tomorrow>>>

  • sonicshorz

Done the ATT thing with not too many issues. Sprint now and they just upgraded outin the country in my area. to 3G!! I’m so happy! can’t wait for 4g and trhen LTE

  • smisa27

Lovin T-Mobile! First carrier with Android? Yup! Still rockin the best Android phones? Yup! Winner? T-Mobile!!! Been with them for over 7 years and still lovin them. And as for manufacturer, that’s a big toughie between HTC and Samsung. Overall, I think it’s a close call, but Samsung is barely above HTC.

  • Kithanas

I really want to see what Asus has up it’s sleeve for MWC. If their padfone design turns out as good as their tablets, I may have to get one of those instead of a Galaxy Nexus.

  • RandomGuy234

My first Android phone was an HTC Desire and I loved it. It was a great phone (minus the lack of internal storage space) and I recently had to decommission it due to the screen breaking. Enjoy your rest old friend. I now have a Motorola Electrify, and I very much enjoy it.

  • commanderastig

no hating! i’m a Washington Redskins fan. hugh football fan overall. But when it comes to Superbowl? it is a must see! no matter if your team didn’t make it to this far. The New York Giants had rocky start of this season but have proven in so many games that they are solid team coming to superbowl. But, I got to give the New England Patriots my favor here, they have proven every single game that even thier defense is not consistent as it should have been, but their high power offense can take them pass New York Giants and WIN the Superbowl. once again!! but back to the topic here: going with team samsung on at&t!!!!! yeah baby!

  • hkz4lf

Ok, gotta go with Verizon and Samsung. Never had a coverage problem and I travel a fair amount. Samsung rocks!! Great Devices with Great Features and Flexibility.

  • definitely gotta cheer for verizon best and biggest line up of smart phones even if they dont know how to handle the releases. oh and galaxy nexus all the way

  • orangestrat

I’m a huge fan of Motorola, I still miss my milestone sometimes. I’m currently rocking a galaxy nexus, but if moto made a nexus, or at least a phone with an unlocked boot loader and oodles of developer support, I’d be all over it!

  • bboytaione

I’ve fallen in love with the HTC brand to say the least. They really know how a phone needs to be built in my opinion.
I’m still rocking my Nexus One and it has been one of those devices i consider to be perfection at its best!

As for a carrier. Verizon really does have a great lineup of phones.
They have given their customers what they need. As was with the Galaxy Nexus coming to their customers first.

  • shoegazer

Can’t wait to see who the victor is!!

  • Ryan McFadden

Did I win?? Tell me I won!!!

  • steve19137

Yay I love free stuff. Pretty simple.

  • Ricardo Carrilo

    Goooo Samsung

  • Vitti

Love the contest here guys. Keep it up. I already commented, but pulling for Sprint/Samsung.

  • nps

    Tegra madness!

  • jasonlee

ok so im using the Galaxy Nexus and LOVE it. However, Motorola is by far my fav manufacturer. Solid hardware every time. Just cant stand locked bootloaders. Thats the killer. If you people arent hoping for that Droid RAZR dev edition to hit the states then somethings wrong with ya ;-)

    Also Verizon LTE kicks ASSSSS!!!!!!

  • Jason Hernandez

Moto and VZW combo picking up steam….And LTE is pretty sick!!

  • dgoller

I’m a fan of Samsung with the Galaxy Nexus, although my Fascinate is a bit iffy sometimes with their slow updates. Now for Tablets I’m all for ASUS, especially if I win one.

  • skapheles

    In it to win it!

  • Prime

  • Jeff Wright

I still don’t have a android but I would love to HTC seems to make really solid devices. The prime would be sweet as my first. Let me win and convert me to android.

  • http://about.me/LuisOTorres taz88ny

I’m loyal to Sprint, but with all of their recent price hikes, my loyalty is beginning to wane. I like HTC phones more for the Sense UI than for the phones themselves. I feel like HTC is falling being in hardware design and specs, while Samsung is getting better and better.

  • fellster

Verizon is the only carrier that that works in my home. I am on my second HTC phone, but, I tried to hold out until the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, but my other phone drowned before it came out.

  • http://www.openintro.com OpenIntro

Since switching to Sprint last year, I can say it is HEADS AND TAILS better than the ATT service I used to have. The number of dropped calls I’ve had in the past year equal what I had every couple of days with ATT. The 3G speeds have left a little to be desired, but I am excited to see the LTE rollout!

  • eldenW

HTC is my first choice (Samsung is second runner up)

  • strifu

Motorola has the best build quality, verizon used it to lead the way for android on their fantastic network and it has a very string dev community working hard to get ICS on devices that are 2+ years old.

  • dukenilnil

Come on Motorola fans! It’s the best brand and you know it.

  • Shadowlore

    As Stated before:

Verizon, Samsung, and Giants. :) Can’t really go wrong with the 3 right now.. but as always Robert Jordan said it best:

“Legends fade to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again.”

To me, it describes tech companies very accurately. Those that are sitting on top of the world right now, will be tomorrows fodder if they’re not careful ;)

  • heldros

It would be great to win one

  • teudster

I am sticking to the truth…HTC and Sprint…good enough, and cheap !!

  • freddayyy

Had T-Mobile along with the HTC Sensation and was definitely dissapointed with 4G speeds along with my Sensation. Switched to AT&T and got the GSII Skyrocket and could not be happier! I love my team!!

  • dancow

    Samsung and Sprint

  • mellanhead

HTC and sprint all the way baby! Evo rocks and sprint packages are the best. As for the kindle fire? I have one and it sucks…i gave it to my 5 and 2yr old to play with

  • awlarge

So my Moto Droid 2 puts me on the losing team huh? Maybe a nice new Asus would help!

  • dracer777

I’ll take one new tablet please. :P

  • ericl5112

Can’t wait till I can get my AT&T Galaxy Note…so I can trade it for an international one :p

Already got a deal set up. I don’t care too much about LTE, and I want an exynos for a 720p screen.

  • ptenhoopen

I’ve only used Motorola with Android so far; and I like them!

  • Shackled

T-Mobile and Samsung here, haven’t been majorly disappointed yet.

  • djembeman

    Motorola phones rock!!! Verizon Rocks!!!

  • techvudu

TMO and Samsung all the way. Both a solid offense and defense this year. Coming out strong in the first quarter with the Note.

  • Anthony Massingham

    Woo! Android.

  • RiverDog

Im still pulling for a Samsung upset and ATT (mostly cause its my carrier and I dont want to loose unlimited data) or I would have probably jumped ship…..

Verizon all the way! Pricey but well worth it. Ive only had one devise, an HTC, (its ok no complaints). But thats all I know… need to try more. Heard Samsung is good, might go for that next time.

  • Shazam

Verizon & Motorola get my vote on a early Friday morning.

  • booyootoo

In the Netherlands, Samsung us my favourite and my network is simyo, daughter of kpn. They have the best coverage here.

  • Craig Mogi

For phones I’m going to vote for Samsung, they seem like they’d be a major step up from Motorola. But for tablets, I’m voting for Asus, the Transformer Prime is amazing.

  • rutgers2k

Sammy all the way…named after my nephew

  • Kevin Lembke

Samsung is the way to go right now.
But soon it might switch to Asus when their new phones comes out! :)

  • zippyioa

For me it’s the Samsung Galaxy SII and the carrier is giffgaff (UK)

As for a tablet, it has to be the Motorola Xoom (that’s another vote for Motorola) :)

  • Michael Rogers

Carrier: T-Mobile. 3 years, no problems.
Manufacturer: HTC. G1 and G2. Nuff said.

  • Blazian

    What a great opportunity!

  • Ryan McFadden

    Verizon and Samsung FTW!!

  • Trevor Cameron

As much as I ethically am not a fan of the big red machine, they have the best service, best coverage, fastest speeds and really no one else comes close. Go big RED! And Samsung is just putting a hurting on all of the other OEM’s out there… My Galaxy Nexus is far and away the coolest gadget I’ve ever purchased!

  • ralphwiggum1

I’m using a Motorola phone on Page Plus (running off Verizon). Can’t afford actual Verizon.

  • MrCKP

I’m with Team Samsung and Verizon!

  • glenton

    Samsung and T-Mobile. Go team!

  • timothy rotell

    htc and t-mobile lets go

  • Kam_Pewter

Samsung is the shiz-nit when it comes to handsets, everyone else is playing for second right now. As far as carriers are concerned Sprint has the best plans and their unlimited data can’t be beat!

    • Lekz

Samsung has definitely been doing a better job than the rest imo! Maybe not the best, but surely a better one

  • GirLuvsDroid

I would dearly love to win an ASUS Transformer Prime, which I could tether to my Verizon Galaxy Nexus when I don’t have available wifi.

  • spazby

    Congrats to the winners

  • YMS123

I still don’t understand what you non Sprint people do without unlimited data, I’ve gone over 10 Gb before, but who’s counting?

  • Alex Vidrean

Long live Vodafone and Samsung..best team ever :D

  • dacatalyst41

Galaxy Nexus and an Asus Transformer Prime sounds like the Dynamic Duo….lets make it happen!

  • DerekV

I love my Sprint service, even if it is slow on the 3G. I’ve never had a problem with them as a company. For phones, I’m really liking my Motorola Photon 4G. It’s been able to handle just about anything I throw at it.

  • KitF

Samsung on AT&T is the best!

  • bugz_92

I only supper Samsung because right now they have the Nexus. Nothing more.

  • lawrenceh

HTC is the best maker. Quality is always tops. If you dont like the update schedule get on rooting and flashing a custom ROM. Its what Android is made for.

  • thekeithjackson

sprint and the Samsung Epic 4GTouch. Perfect match

  • Isaac Lanado

It would do no harm to win a transformer prime!!!! thanks Android and Me and Samsung

  • burnnhell

I’ve got to throw one in for sprint. Epic touch and nexus s… Guess that makes me a Samsung fan!

  • drauks

I have to go for Samsung because of the Galaxy Nexus.

  • jasonlee

Samsung for me.. The Nexus S and Gnex have me loyal to them for now

  • Andy_jr

    Transformer Prime with dock!

    T-Mobile & Samsung here.

  • tengo

Definitely TMobile as a carrier…. they have served me well.

On the fence about manufacturers though. LG has been good to me but i lust over some others :) ASUS **wink wink**

  • TornadoTexan

I don’t really have much a preference when it comes to manufacturer simply because HTC has made my past 3 phones. I guess they’re doing something right (hardware keyboard more than likely) to keep me coming back for more!

  • skokefoe

I don’t really have complaints about Sprint, although I’d like some new phones, please. But I’m not that invested in picking a “team!”

  • Surge1

so glad that theres wallet on att now, makes my imported gnex even better

  • rock3r

I’m for Vodafone IT and Samsung. The former just because they have a great customer support via Twitter, even if they’re the most expensive here in Italy. The latter because… I love my Galaxy Nexus!

  • RipCityForEver

HTC phones bringing sexy back you other phones don’t know how to act! What more can I say about TRUE unlimited data. Go Sprint!
