Final Fantasy III released for Japanese Android devices – Other countries to follow? We hope so!

It’s been available on iOS for quite some time, and now Square Enix has decided to spread its wings and release Final Fantasy III for the Android ecosystem. The only (and major) issue is that it’s not available for everyone just yet. In fact the Final Fantasy classic can only be played by Japanese Android device owners.

You may have played the old school Nintendo version, like me. This game will not resemble the classic game very much. It has been enhanced with better graphics and 3D effects. It will look very different from what you remember. But it is fun, and the faces are more recognizable. (I like seeing my characters).

It seems we’ll have to continue using emulators to play this game. At least for a while. But it sure would be nice to have a native version available. And as of now, we have no idea when (or if) this game will be hitting other countries. But we sure hope Square Enix can give us the treat.

If you’re a Squaresoft fan, you may also like to know that Final Fantasy (1) and Chrono Trigger classics are also available. Once again, only for the Japanese market. We’ll just have to wait our turn. Check out the iOS trailer and let us know what you think. How many of you want to see these games coming to the US (or any other country)? I’m still waiting for a native Android version of Final Fantasy VII!

this is not squaresoft anymore Q_Q, this tragedy is called square Enix, btw this kind of action will kill SE, plus that android have too many region specific things

    • Christopher Chavez

Shows you how old-school Edgar is..

And now, I just call ‘em Squenix. =p

      • Edgar Cervantes

Isn’t it funny to think that the younger kids have no idea what Squaresoft is? I seriously pulled out a VCR the other day, and my niece was like “what is that?”

Are you serious? Makes me feel old! LMAO

        • honourbound68

same here! but heck, I’m hoping we get it too.. love to relive these games

      • alxrock

When reading your comment, I seriously thought you were talking about the character Edgar from FFVI. lol.

      • Homncruse

Except it’s a rarity these days that their new titles elicit the “squee” that they did back when it was just Squaresoft. Whether that’s Enix’s doing, or a change in the times, or me just getting old is up for debate.

    • Edgar Cervantes

LOL. Yeah, I just said Squaresoft because the “classics” were made back in the day when we called it that. :)

      • AsakuraZero

im not that young Squaresoft made the best FF and games, when Enix came on the scene all went to the drain.

truth to be told FF3 is a good game i played this remake on the DS i would play it again on my smartphone because the game was lend from a friend, getting the gungir was quite a feat

  • Christopher Chavez

I put so many hours into the DS version and would love to give the Android version a shot. Higher res visuals alone is enough to warrant a buy :D

    Bring it, Squenix!

  • WlfHart

I’m excited! Now if they’d bring out FFI!

  • Billy

Love FF especially the early versions!

  • alxrock

I’ve been waiting to see some Final Fantasy on Android, but I was actually hoping for some old school pixelated goodness.

  • rantmo

Man, between this and the announcement of the pre-order start date for Guild Wars 2, it’s been a good day for nerds! Provided that Squenix brings these games to the US. Otherwise, it’s a cause to riot (on the internet.)

  • Nathan D.

I would love to play the game even if I didn’t play the original game. :-)

  • thekaz

Sweet. I am so getting this. Now, when are the early ultima games coming out? C’mon, Lord British!!

  • spazby

love final fantasy games, especially VII. Bring them all as soon as possible to US please.

  • n25philly

I hope they bring all the early FF games, that would be awesome. Just make sure everything after X gets tossed in the dumpster where they belong.

  • olentz

Please remake Final Fantasy IX for Android!!!

    • rantmo

I would get so little done if they did that and I would love every moment of it.

  • Burnd

Even if they wouldn’t make it, it would find it’s way to Android anyway with all those emulators around.

    It’s nice outlook, nonetheless.

  • Silgrond

Can’t wait to play these games next year when (hopefully) my Japanese will be enough for this to enjoy it throughly :) Also the fact I’ve lost my phone about 2 months ago, and I have no money to get a new Android device, so I can wait lol…
Last time I played Pokemon Emerald in Japanese, I’ve learned a lot of new words from it.

  • KRS_Won

    Chrono Trigger ftw!

  • Trevor Cameron

I have to admit between working two jobs and having a girlfriend, I don’t take much time to play video games on my SGN. I feel guilty about this. Like I’m letting my phone down. That being said, if any three of those games came out for Android, I would risk losing both jobs and my girlfriend to dive back into the magically worlds that I grew up on as a kid! I hope they make it happen, it would be a HUGE money maker for them!!!

  • Oskar Wismierski

Great news! Hope more games like this will show up! I mean our phones these days are not far behind handheld consoles such as DS ;)

  • Craig Mogi

Holy cow, i can’t wait for these to come out. I want to set it up on the Transformer Prime, and use a PS3 controller with it. That’d be an awesome way to kill time.

  • plue

i definitely wish they would release FFVII and FFVIII on Android! it’d be awesome to be playing them again~

  • Ciel_kun

I have both FFIII and FFI on my android device and they both work just fine, both are downloaded legally from Square Enix… (Motorola Photon [US version])

    • Eggz

      But in Japanese language…

      • Ciel_kun

Yes in Japanese language, the APK’s are by themselves Free, however the Data required to play the game costs about $16 USD.

  • cheap Monster Beats Turbine Earphones

I hope they bring all the early FF games, Monster Miles Davis Tribute High Performance In-Ear Speakers
