Is this the Galaxy Tab 11.6?

Let’s be honest. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 11.6 is nothing more than a rumor at this point. Jonathan Geller of BGR first reported on the device back in December and then I saw a prototype device in January, but we have no hard evidence to suggest that this product will ever come to market.

However, I think we all agree that Samsung will issue a response to the new iPad within the coming months, so we will continue to speculate about the announcement and dig for new details. Today I came across this rather interesting picture of an unreleased tablet, hidden on Samsung’s own site.

What is this tablet?

It looks similar to the Galaxy Tab 2 (10.1) that we saw at Mobile World Congress, but the speaker grills and coloring are different. It could just be some random mockup, but it was found on a product page for Exynos 5250. Yep, that’s the same 2 GHz Exynos 5250 that we all expect to power this mysterious Galaxy Tab 11.6.

So I ask again, what is this Samsung tablet?

pretty sure it’s the Galaxy Tab 2.25 with a 10.62375″ display

    • zerosix

10.62375″ Mega SuperAMOLED Retina++ xHD display.

      • teecruz

DEAD. DEAD. DEAD. ROFL .. you guys are too much! I’m laughing. that is funny.

Totally marketable! Great selling pitch. I say, Samsung takes up on it! XD

How funny would that be?! Lol

  • oddball

It makes a lot of sense to use this chip in the 11.6″ tablet. Especially as the high resolution will increase power consumption pretty drastically at that size. Having the CPU and GPU running hugely more efficiently will help to alleviate that

  • jonathan3579

I wonder how big tablets will get until someone says, “This is just too big!” I welcome more real estate.

    • thekaz

according to Fanboys, anything not the size of an iTab or iPhone is either too big or too small, no?

    • Anuslickers.

Have fun carrying round your “portable” 32″ tablet, when a phone gets too big to be defined by the word “mobile” then it is too big, when a tablet becomes so big that it can’t be classed as portable then it is too big !!

10″ ish for a tablet is just right, 7″ if you want a middle ground and 4″ ish for a phone is just right … No bigger on either count !!

      • jonathan3579

I don’t know… I had a week with the Note and I’d say that is a good max size for phones. In fact, I was very happy with it once I got accustomed to a .7 inch larger screen.

I think tablets should go up to 12″ or even 14″. The only problem is that clothing technology has not yet caught up. If we had tablet optimized shirts, vests, and jackets with a pocket on your back for your tablet, there would be no barriers to bigger tablets. Other options would be a tablet pouch you can wear like a quiver. Of course we do have messenger bags already.

If it were 4:3 form factor, it might be the perfect E-reader for PDFs and magazines – I have actually been wondering when someone would make a 12″ 4:3 tab. At 16:10, it might not be much more useful than a 10″

      • Crix

Ageed! IMO apple got it right with the form factor. Though at 11.6 diagonal there might be as much width as the iPad that I’m pecking this out on now (iPad 1…. It was a gift! Can’t wait to rid myself of it for the 11.6). So 16:10 might be okay as long as there is enough physical width to the screen to comfortably fit a web page. Hold on, just remembered some trig: a 16:10 would have an 18.87 diag, so 11.6/18.87=1.626. 10 / 1.626=6.15 inch screen width. That’s more than the 5.75″ I’m measuring on this iPad screen. W00t

It better be the Tab 11.6 because I am due for a new tablet! Samsung, announce the thing already and let’s get buying.

    • aranea

      Exactly my thoughts.

      • aranea

?? I’m confused. I second what Louis A said and still people disagree with me but agree him. That doesn’t make any sense at all.

  • spazby

come on sammy, don’t keep us waiting too long

  • honourbound68

    boonnnngggg boooonnngg booonnnggg
    did you hear that?
that’s the death knell for netbooks. with the improvements in SoC graphics, speed, and power, i can’t see how netbooks will last 3 more years in the market.

    • joe

Some people like keyboards. Like me. Love having a tablet, but really wishing I had the Transformer Prime instead of Galaxy Tab so I could use it with a keyboard when I need to get some work done. I don’t think netbooks are dead, I think they are just merging with Tablets.

      • WlfHart

Ever try a bluetooth keyboard? There are some pretty good ones out there now. And while it may not be integrated or have the backup battery, the combo is still rather portable.

      • Hue Three of Five

Also a full OS can do more than a tablet OS. Try using Adobe Indesign, Illustrator or Dreamweaver on a tablet.

        • honourbound68

Agreed that net books still have a niche now. But it’s ever shrinking and with continued improvements of socs, miniaturization of components and the software move to apps and/or cloud, net books will disappear (and I’m not including ultralights bec the movement is away from regular sized laptops and towards ultras)

  • Lucian Armasu

The screen ratio doesn’t look exactly right (16:10). It looks more like a 4:3 tablet. Either way, I’d prefer this with an integrated keyboard like the Transformer. It makes a lot more sense for such a device to have a bigger screen, because it benefits you more in “laptop mode”.

  • Slith

I hope the wait isn’t too long. I’m saving up digital magazines to read on that screen!

  • Nate B.

I think Sammy is the beat thing for Android. Moto is all over the place. HTC is good to. The One series brought them back. I favor Sammy all the way though. Quality wise and performance. Android as a whole still needs some unity and less quantity(moto)

  • yildirim

is this galaxy tab 11.6?is this sgs2 plus?is this sgs3?i think samsung making fun at us.everyone pre-ordering new htc devices but still no new devices from samsung.go to hell samsung..i am pre-ordering htc one x.

  • kilmas

i want this tablet,so bad.i hope it come out soon.what type of screen do you guys this this tablet will use?.i hope for a Super AMOLED Plus hd screen

  • uknowme

If all this is true, I might actually buy something from Samsung.

    • perlowin

I have a Galaxy SII and the screen is INCREDIBLE!!! I’m with “kilmas” above – I hope it’s a Super AMOLED screen!

I recorded an HD video when I first got the phone and was ASTOUNDED by the playback quality (on the phone).

  • B2L

11.6 sounds like it would fit in the hands nicely. I already know it’s coming, so I’ll save you some time.

    That’s what she said.

  • Nathan D.

I have a 10.1 inch tab and if I add another 1.5 inches to my screen I’ll have to extended the tablet front side all together to fit that, and I think 10.1 inch is a bit big on that side of the spectrum but still manageable at the same time.

  • perlowin

Do they need any beta testers?

  • jenskristian

I hope it’s not, because it doesn’t look good. The whole “N” look is really bad.

  • pekosROB

So many awesome Android device choices I think my head is going to explode… into candy and happiness.

  • yadira

I hope it is i have been saving for the galaxy 10.1 but as soon as i heard about this one i been thinking i rather wait for the new one

  • pepperonijack

That’s a 4:3 tablet. If Samasung makes a 4:3, 11.6″ tablet with more-than-1080p resolution, I’ll be first in line to buy it. But since every rumor about the Tab 11.6 said it would be a 16:9 device, I guess this is just a random mockup.

  • Leroy23

    Fake Galaxy Tab 11.6

    Damn, the trolls are out.

    • pekosROB

agreed, people are hating on the comments!!!!

      • jonathan3579

I +1 you. They’re out in full swing this week.

        • pekosROB

          +1 back!

  • Azam

I not found any above pictures in the Samsung website…

    They have removed it?

  • tagstar

I’m waiting on this tablet. It better have the same resolution as the new ipad so I can buy it!

  • RRR

The tablet i am waiting for years will have dimensions exactly like this one if you remove the 2″ of its bezel: 11.6+2=13.6. Which is what? Correct, it’s standard A4 letter format of most of journals. Such tablet would be killer of printed press. Yes, and the screen must be almost edge-to-edge with the virtual bezel of programmable size

  • CR

I am waiting for this tablet! Love Samsung products.

  • dj_big_frank

A co-worker has the Tab, and its awesome. I wish I had the money to afford one right now…Android is the way to go!
