Premium Suite upgrade for Galaxy Note offers new S Pen applications and Android 4.0

Galaxy Note

We all expected the Samsung Galaxy Note to receive Android 4.0 in Q1, but unfortunately the software upgrade has been pushed back to sometime in Q2. Thankfully this major upgraded dubbed “Premium Suite” will include a lot more than just Ice Cream Sandwich.

Today Samsung shared a video that detailed all the new things coming to the Galaxy Note. The Premium Suite upgrade offers exclusive S Pen applications, enhanced multimedia features, and an Android 4.0 upgrade as expected. It will also unlock 30 Danger Zone levels in the new Angry Birds Space game.

“With the Premium Suite upgrade, we wanted to add features that enrich users’ Note experience even more, including the great advantages of Android 4.0 and innovative applications for S Pen,” said JK Shin, President of Samsung Mobile. “We are committed to providing extraordinary experiences for consumers, and we will continue to provide new features and upgrades to enrich our offering.”

As most of these things go, the exact availability and scheduling of the Premium Suite upgrade will vary by country and wireless carrier. Check out the preview video below for an idea of what to expect when it finally arrives.

I would rather they make the update available and then worry about things like this.

    • thel0nerang3r

Then the SPen wouldn’t work properly. It’s a nifty feature.

      • eallan

Why wouldn’t it? Android 4.0 has full stylus support.

        • thel0nerang3r

Just found out that ICS does have native support for stylus… so I retract my original comment.

the push to Q2 is a major disappointment…

    • thel0nerang3r

Q2 starts in 10 days.. so I don’t see much of a delay there.

  • Bonners_

so im confused. Its’ offically not ICS so why are they advertising it as ICS? its just a premium upgrade.

It is Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with their TouchWiz UI on top.

Note is already my favorite phone. With new update, the best will be even better while widening the gap between it, and the competition.

Holly Crap guys… this is super sweet ….. Diabetic !! lol

This is the first phone that I have seen (so far) that comtinues to
amaze me day-in day-out. The fact that Samsung is not just updating the
phones OS to ICS, but also adding/upgrading more tools specifically designed
for the Note, is truely fantastic! Most manufatures make a couple of specific apps
for a phone and leave it at that .. if any at all (besides the UI). These guys are going
the distance to make our phone/tablet experiences even better …
Hats off to you Samsung, please continue to shock and amaze us ..!!

I’m glad to see that the “Premium Suite” apps aren’t a bunch of bloatware, but actually useful apps for the S pen.

Seem worth the wait to me.

  • B2L

I don’t mind waiting at all, my Note is already great with Gingerbread.

  • WlfHart

Good things come to those who wait? :)

  • fingers26

YES…. I’m waiting for this Upgrade since I bought my NOTE.. in January…. come on…!!! Release the upgrade NOW..!!!!

The S-Pen apps look smart. I already find the S-Memo useful. The S-Note will be a killer app going by the video. Would rather wait a few weeks more for a stable release than have a half-baked ICS upgrade.

This is looking better and better – too late for me now, I already went GNex, but I could easily imagine owning whatever is the successor to the Note. That shape recognition/correct tool looks really useful, I could see it making creating things like wireframes for website design really quick and easy. It’s nice to see they are supporting it with useful tools and not leaving it up to users to find a use for it.
