Test photo from Galaxy S III hints at 8 megapixel camera?

Samsung Galaxy Rumor

Want to see a test photo from the Samsung Galaxy S III? We are not expecting the device until June, but rumors suggest the design has been finalized and now recent photos seem to confirm it’s currently being tested by Samsung employees.

German blog AllAboutSamsung spotted a picture that was uploaded to Picasa from a device with the model number GT-I9300. Recent speculation has suggested that GT-I9300 will become the model number of the Galaxy S III, so these could be the first photos from the highly anticipated device.

So what can we learn from the photo? It appears to be taken by a Samsung employee located in New York City. We can see a Samsung laptop, Samsung tablet, Samsung phone, and a row of Samsung chargers located in the picture. The resolution of the picture is 3264 × 2448, which suggest an 8.1 megapixel camera.

The current Galaxy S II also features an 8 megapixel camera, but we know that megapixel count is not that important anymore when talking about picture quality. Keep in mind that this photo might have been snapped with a lower resolution, and the Galaxy S III could still feature a 12 megapixel camera like rumored.

Whoever uploaded the photo to Picasa already took it down, which could suggest this is real and got online by accident. We only have the lower resolution image below to go by, so don’t let this single photo be the judge of the final camera quality. Some sites have already pointed out that this photo was captured with an HDR effect, which could explain the blurriness.

Overall this isn’t much to get excited about, but the Galaxy S III is the hottest upcoming phone and we will devour any bit that gets tossed our way. Check out the picture below and let us know what you think about it.

This photo from the GT-I9300 was uploaded to Picasa with the title "20120308_175456_HDR(1).jpg"

The Android Community is fit to pop! myself included

Could this launch be more anticipated than the Galaxy Nexus launch?

    • cthonctic

Definitely so. I really wanted to hang on and wait for the GSIII but couldn’t and got a GNex instead. But I think the next Galaxy S device is really the dream device I’ll never own.

Samsung will have some tough fight with htc. htc’s new strategy could be a big hit.

If it comes on ATT. I’ll try to see if I can upgrade before my contract is over. That’ll be a first time for me.

considering how great the s2 camera was, 8mp would be perfectly fine, assuming they naturally improve the optics, bsi, and all that other good photo stuff

    • AsakuraZero

true, more MP sometimes means sacrifing quallity 8MP does a great job, and with good lenses, its like… you know a dance

  • h0ruza

If they improve the lens, colour processor and it takes photos at high speed like the Nexus or faster who needs 12.x Mp?

I wish they’d stop with the stupid megapixel arms race.

The Exif data could’ve been easily modified, It’s most likely a fake,

  • Hall Lo

Who cares its 12MP or 8MP if it can take awesome looking pictures :P
And its glad to know that most things are getting finalized! Cant wait when its being announced!

That’s actually I great move on their part. I loved their decision to make the Galaxy Nexus performance efficient. It’s awesome taking pictures with one quick snap. Maybe they are attempting to have the same level of performance but with a higher mp count. If it really does have a quad core processor, i’m sure it could be done XD

The photo was already taken down? lol Interesting. Anyway I would prefer if it did have the rumored 12mp cam, but the comments above are correct, if they do improve the optics, bsi etc, then im fine with it. I just think it would be fitting if the most anticipated phone would bump up out of the 8mp bracket.

  • MJM128

I care more about battery life now. So the camera doesn’t really matter to me.

    • DroidPower

      definitely agree with that

  • classic_hero

hopefully they’ll “accidently” post another pic

  • honourbound68

hope it can take pics while taking videos like the GN

    • Dirge

The HTC One X does that too. Perhaps it’s an ICS thing?

  • stondec

    The above picture looks disgraceful.
Sure Samsung can do much better. I hope it’s at least a 12MP camera with improved optics and sensor.

  • s2fan

Since S2 has 8MP, hope that Sammy will move that up to 12MP on S3

  • Andr0idh3Ad

Official Samsung Galaxy S II ICS with TouchWiz UI. Not really impressed. Anyone in Europe or Asia get their Kies Air update? i have mixed feelings about this…… i prefer stock!!

  • Nathan D.

Well the low Res pic would explain why the picture sucks on my tablet. Can’t wait to see the real quality shot form the GSIII

  • spazby

just release the details already sammy so we can stop guessing

  • thecityboy781
