HTC and Facebook jointly working on new Facebook Phone?

Today’s rumor comes from a notably unreliable source, so take it with a pound of salt.

Digitimes is reporting this morning that Facebook and HTC are jointly working on a Facebook phone, to be released Q3 2012 at the earliest. While HTC has released the ChaCha and Salsa headsets, “Facebook” phones with a dedicated Facebook button, the current collaboration will likely result in a more deeply integrated product. Digitimes suggests that the device will have a platform exclusive to Facebook, which will grant HTC full access to the suite of Facebook functions.

While Android and Me readers tend to groan whenever we mention Facebook, the fact that Facebook has over 900 million worldwide users suggests that there is certainly a potential market for a Facebook-integrated device. While many of us have embraced the social age with our Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Instagram, and other social media accounts, many more out there solely rely on Facebook for their social networking needs.

If the rumor pans out, we should learn more details about the HTC Facebook phone in coming months. Any readers out there interested in a Facebook phone? What if it had the specs of the HTC One X? Can a true Facebook phone beat out the next Nexus phone, which has just been tipped for Samsung?

Oh please no. We don’t need more people that much more integrated to Facebook…

I just deleted my Facebook account due to their support of CISPA. I can only imagine the amount of spying that would be done on someone with a Facebook phone in a CISPA world.

    Oh dear lord, not again….

  • Kaote

Because the first one sold so well.

  • Zagrash

    FB phone? I’ll take 3!!!!111!1

FB kills enough of my time as it is….(even, my grandma wanting to be my friend)….all hell will break loose! End is near!

    fail fail fail

  • Jake Gall

Yawn……ill pass, I already have Facebook on my phone. It’s funny how they are attempting to capitalize on it tho.

    • professandobey

Right? Aside from the extra button, how much deeper integration can you get?

  • vid500

So that people will be even more time on facebook as they already are. Really NOT looking forward for that.

  • pjamies

Another HTC failure .. Oh goodie ..

If HTC wants to make a positive change and actually pull their
Financial ass’s out of the fire .. they should look at what Sammy is
doing and try to innovate that way … Facebook .. so lame!

    • SGB101

      800million peeps would disagree

    • professandobey

I’m not saying that this is a good idea, but all the best companies aren’t afraid to take risks. Trying something different is a way a company can bounce back.

  • jonathan3579

It’s like HTC’s not even trying anymore… None of this crap makes sense.

  • jamal adam

This is a really bad idea. I don’t think this will help HTC at all, might even hurt it. Instead, they should just focus on developing new smartphones that will compete in the hard markets of the US and other markets worldwide. This facebook phone is a waste of time, effort, and ingenuity of HTC staff.

  • SGB101

its not for me, but there is a large market for this if it is marketed correctly and sold cheap. this could be the one to temped a lot of dumb phone users to smart phone, and a lot of teens.

as long as its cheap, low to mid specs a decent screen, it will sell if FB really pushed it. they could even partner with a network for cheap/free Facebook traffic. they have history in the UK at this as they have done this Orange and 3 mobile.

    • redraider133

They did this with at&t and it failed miserably. They stopped selling the phones a month or so after releasing it.

  • redraider133

I guess HTC is going by the if at first you don’t succeed, try try again lol.

  • josegb2011

My sister can’t know about this ..she will be the #1 in line for this phone..have mercy htc

  • Aaron_301

Do we really need to see this again? Did either the HTC ChaCha or Salsa do well enough for a successor? Just kill it now.

  • rully

The facebook button is not really important,or useless. I using htc cha cha, and the feature only make my aplication memory of my phone having low space. So hey htc.. You should to think twice.. :)
