Official: T-Mobile HTC Sensation 4.0 update coming May 16

After months of delays and broken promises, T-Mobile has finally made it official! The Android 4.0.3 update for the HTC Sensation 4G will be available on May 16 – just two days from now. This new information comes from the HTC Sensation 4G’s support page on T-Mobile’s website, following news from the first week of May which claimed the Android 4.0 update would be available “very soon.

Once Wednesday rolls around, you can manually check for the Android 4.0.3 update on the HTC Sensation 4G. From your home screen, press Menu > Settings > About Phone > Software Updates > Check. T-Mobile is recommending that you have at least a 50% charge on your device to make sure your battery does not deplete during the update process.

To add to the good news, T-Mobile has updated the HTC Amaze 4G support page, stating its Android 4.0 update will be available in the “coming weeks.” We’re not sure how much longer Amaze 4G owners will actually have to wait for their Ice Cream Sandwich update, but we’re hoping T-Mobile makes it available before the end of the month.

Are any of you excited for the official Android 4.0.3 update for the HTC Sensation 4G? Did any of you give up and buy a new phone or flash an unofficial Ice Cream Sandwich ROM to your Sensation?

HTC Sensation and Amaze 4G update features

  • Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich)
  • Sense 3.6
  • System bar enhancements to easily view recent apps.
  • Re-sizeable widgets
  • Lock screen actions including pull down notifications and adjust volume while device is locked.
  • Data usage controls.
  • Face Unlock
  • Home screen folders
  • Improved battery life
  • Note: HTC Sensation 4G will be required to add Wi-Fi Mobile Hotspot feature in order to use the service after completing this update.

Nice! I’m happy for all Sensation owners. Now I’m hoping the Evo 3D isn’t far behind.

I don’t understand why there is a fuzz, on the mobile hotspot. I got an HTC One S, and im only paying $5 bucks more for me to have mobile hotspot. Just change your data plan. I was like ” Oh hell no i dont wanna pay more for 5GB data”, but then i saw that it included the free hotspot. Dont complain if you have not asked the proper questions. Times change prices change. Next time get information before you speak.

      • revs

dont know what ur talkin ab but i have unlimited data
and have never been charged or will ever be charged for mobile hotspot i use it veryyyyy often

my work laptop tethering all over nyc long island and a g2x i tether off it for pandora,xm

        • Cesar Flores

Like i said. They now offer 35.00 data plan with unlimited hotspot. obviously you dont know what your are talking about. Just to kick some knowledge to you. HTC had always offered hotspot on their devices. Even back when they offered window os on their devices. Now T-Mobile been trying to restrict it since back the. Thats why some android device from HTC didnt offer them for a while. Until T-Mobile gave the go ahead. it. Since back in 09. I should know i use to work for T-Mobile. Yeah the charge was 15.00, but now with the new data price increase its five dollars more. So instead of 30 bucks 5gb of data. Its 35 with the unlimited hotspot. So with your F all that comment. You either go root your phone and do what ever you want. Or quit the yapping and pay the extra five bucks.

            good to know
but ill just call and complain and get what i want …

Even the old data plans on T-Mobile throttle you at 5GB.

ALL the data plans on T-Mobile are unlimited. You just decide where you want your high speed to be throttled at.

You just have to ask for the NEW 5GB or 10GB plans, to get the free tethering. For some people on grandfathered data plans that were $30 they have to move to the new $35 5GB plan to get the free tethering. It’s the exact same thing but $5 more… you don’t LOSE anything because the old plans throttle you anyway.

They way to think about it is hotspot was NEVER free to begin with. Nowhere in your contract does it state you have access to free hotspot. T-Mobile just never cared to check to see if you are paying for it, now they are checking but they’ll give it to you for free on the new 5GB or 10GB plans so you aren’t paying out of pocket extra.

          • Cesar Flores

Thank you for pointing that out this guy is just an idiot. I really don’t like insulting people with this guy is a narcisstic naive person I don’t understand why you would complain when is just 5 dollars more thank you for the people that dislike his comment

    • I upgraded & regret it. My hotspot was always free with my unlimited $20/mo plan. So for those who have a grandfathered cheap plan, upgrading is tmo’s way to screw us for more money. DO NOT UPGRADE if you have a super cheap data plan. I want to go back to yesterday when I didn’t upgrade and still had free hotspot. I should have read this blog sooner.

that’s sweet! now, if only the s2 will also be updated as promised (nothing yet as of today)…

So what exactly is the “Wi-Fi Mobile Hotspot feature”? Will I no longer be able to turn my phone into a hotspot? I really don’t want to call t-mobile just to ask this. hah.

    • revs

yes you wont be able to use your phne as wifi for other devices
if yu dont know what this is then it dont matter to you

Couldnt wait, flashed the leaked HTC Sense RUU 4.0.3 weeks ago that was posted on XDA. It has been wonderful, Sense is much less intrusive and there is 0 lag on the Amaze that I’m using (thank you hardware acceleration). Chrome (Beta) is awesome! I dont think I can go to another browser after using it.

I’ll test out hotspot capabilities in the coming weeks and see if they start restricting me access. If they do, I can hop over to CM7, but it’d be tough to give up ICS now. I’d like to wait til CM9 is official, but we’ll see. I’ve been impressed by what I’ve seen with CM7 on my little HTC Hero CDMA.

“Note: HTC Sensation 4G will be required to add Wi-Fi Mobile Hotspot feature in order to use the service after completing this update.”-Dont let this side note slip by.

  • Dmtdroid

hmm my predicament is whether i fhash my phone back to vanilla droid in hopes of it fixing my wifi and hopefully having my 4g at a faster speed for the price of paying a little more for wifi vs staying with the one s custom but really nice rom
