Final Fantasy for Android now available on Google Play for $6.99

Four weeks after the Google Play launch of Final Fantasy III, Square Enix has now released “the Final Fantasy that started it all!” Final Fantasy for Android allows you to relive the amazing game which paved the way for at least a dozen more Final Fantasy titles over a 25 year history. The graphics may not be as good as Shadow Gun, The Dark Knight Rises, or Angry Birds, but the turn-based battles and compelling story line of Final Fantasy guarantee hours of nostalgic entertainment.

The 46.39MB download does require Android 2.1 and does cost more than most Android games. The $6.99 price tag may seem steep to most, but we’re sure Square Enix will still be able to sell quite a few copies of the game since the $15.99 priced Final Fantasy III has racked up nearly 100,000 sales in less than a month.

We know most Android users prefer cheap or free games, but is $6.99 a fair price for a classic RPG game like Final Fantasy?

No, just because it literally is an iOS port. Should of supported more resolutions and etc. They messed up. I did buy ff3 and its amazing that deserves the 15$/16$ :)

More exciting than the dreaded opening ceremony of olympics, what a terrible snorefest.

      • Juan V

        It was terrible.

Still waiting on the official Chrono Trigger. I would pay $10 for that game.

Yeah, yeah, I know there are emulators and stuff. But I want a fully supported version from the folks who made it!

    • WlfHart

I’m hoping some day they just come out with the entire pre IX line-up. I’d buy the bundle!

    • Jeremy Shankman

I can’t plus one this comment enough!!! I would buy Chrono Trigger in a heartbeat…even at 15.99 even though I have the PSX port and the SNES version. to have a fully functioning, non rom version of this that is support would be amazing!

      • http://www.infotainmentempire.com pekosROB

Oh why won’t they listennnnnnn to usssss????

      • WlfHart

        Indeed it would!

Call me crazy, but I was never a huge fan of the original FF. I’m still working to beat FFIII (have not had much time to play it). I’m sure I’ll be buying this game, but I have too many games on my phone that I still need to get through.

    • Triplanetary

Well, it’s not the best FF game, but it’s better than FF2. ^_^

      • mikemick

FF2 is my favorite. Assuming we’re talking about the one that was branded FF2 here in the US, that was on the SNES.

        • Triplanetary

Oh no, I meant FF2 in terms of the full series. Sorry.

          Yeah, FF2 (aka FF4 :P) is a great game!

  • Zagrash

If they get around to releasing Final Fantasy Tactics, I’m confident I would buy that for the 3rd time…same with the GBA FF Tactics games, I sunk entirely too many hours into all of those.

  • Alonso

    Very very interesting.

If you buy the game within the US, you pay $6.99, if you are outside the US -BAM!- they charge you $10.81

What? Are non-US buyers not worth the goodness of Final Fantasy? Is there a special tax foreign buyers have to pay?

    Square-Enix you suck…

I’m waiting for Final Fantasy 6 anyway.

Not sure how tax is calculated on Google Play purchases, but I’m sure more EU countries include a 15-20% VAT in the listing price. $6.99 with 20% VAT comes out to $8.39.

      • Sgb101

£4.44 atm in the UK, that works out about $7

        • SGB101

^ oops, forgot to sign in.

    • AsakuraZero

no in my country its 17.xx because fuck you thats why, whats wrong with SE? … wait its square enix what we are talking about, if they could milk a horse they would do it…FF died on the tenth one

  • MoSDeeb

I’ve never played the original so now is as good of a time as ever.

  • spazby

never played this one but i love them all so far, so count me in… i still have a a little left of that $25 credit from nexus 7…

  • rantmo

Hell yes I bought it. I still haven’t picked up III yet but it’s on my list. Anything to get Square to release the rest of my childhood in such a way as to install it on a Nexus 7.

  • wicked4u2c

wait, just a few days ago people were complaining how Dead Trigger had to give their game for free because of piracy. FYI Dead Trigger has 100,000 downloads and it’s free now. Final Fantasy managed to get 100,000 downloads at $15.99 does that make any sense? Oh yeah, build a good game and people will buy. when you sell a game for .99 cents and still have IAP and don’t specify that in the description most likely your going to get burned, just saying…

  • Nathan D.

Always nice to have the classic back in our lives again =)

  • uknowme

I picked it up but I’m pretty upset that it doesn’t fill the screen on my Evo LTE. Hope they fix that in an update.

  • unicronic

It is mind boggling how Square can sell a game at $15. Really they should have bundled the first 3 FF’s together for that.

  • heetskore

$7 to play the FF that started it all? A big fat hell yes from me.

  • Rodney

iOS version runs much smoother and overall better, as expected

    • uknowme

Really, so that must mean you have both an ios device and an android device to test this. Very interesting troll is very interesting…sigh.

      • Rodney

No, but my brother does. Is this hard to figure out?

  • me

Format is bad. Everything looks so tiny on my S3. They did a lazy job at porting this over. No wonder the cheap price. I got a refund after playing a few mins of it.

I paid for FF3 & would kepted the game if they put as much effort into as they did with FF3.

  • WPR

where is the world map ?

  • Andy Pein

    I am so sorry
