Nexus 7 16GB now back in stock at Google Play

The Nexus 7 may well be the perfect 7″ tablet, but a few glaring omissions can potentially create issues. Most notably, the lack of a microSD slot leaves you stuck with a finite amount of storage, making the 16GB option the better buy especially for those of us who enjoy gaming on our devices (FIFA 12 was a massive 2GB by itself). Unfortunately, the 16GB Nexus 7 was hard to find, with retail stores selling out of the device and Google Play out of stock with nary an availability date given.

It seems Google has gotten another shipment from ASUS, and currently has the 16GB Nexus 7 back in stock on Google Play. Like the 8GB model, anyone who orders the 16GB Nexus 7 today should have the tablet on their doorstep in 3-5 business days. To get your hands on the 16GB Nexus 7, head over to Google Play and put in an order.

Having been fortunate enough to nab one of these, I can say that it’s an awesome device. I love mine.

My iPad 3 is 9.7 inches. Cant believe ndroid is so much behind in technology, let alone they are only at version 4, while Apple dominates with version 6.

      • cb2000a

And how much did your ipad cost?

      • Simon Jensen

Lol, why are you here again? oh and as far as versions it took you guys 6 versions to get something right, while we’re at 4, All your company can do is sue people for money, lol… :-)

I offer this as a rebuttal:

    I was so tempted.

But I knew my wife would be pissed. I have a Transformer Prime with dock and bought my Galaxy S3 off contract, so no Jelly Bean goodness for me yet. :-(

Happy for everyone that is able to finally order one though!

has anyone ordered the case? I think it is available today… not sure I am getting it though…

  • LukeT32

I would love one, but I don’t think I am ready to jump on the tablet idea yet. I don’t think there really is a use for it other then a novelty item.

Don’t get me wrong, I would love one. Just can’t justify the purchase… :(

    • ButcherChop

I ordered one from Walmart and they actually gave me a 2 week arrival date. It never showed and I cancelled.
It was $307 for the tablet, including tax, free shipping and a 3-year Walmart warranty which was only like $25. Its a big leap from the advertised $199 price for the 8GB to the 16GB.
I’d love to have one, but now that it’s cancelled, the $300 price is a pretty big deduction to the savings account.
My Samsung Galaxy Nexus’ battery drains pretty quickly so that’s one great reason to have a tablet for use around the house, but other than that, not sure what’d need it for. Plus I heard the apps aren’t fully optimized and not many to choose from. Is that the case?

      • cb2000a

It’s much better for game, reading books, watching videos, and surfing the net. If you have an older phone, game machine, or tablet you can trade it at Game Stop and get a discount on the 16gb Nexus 7. I got $91 for my Acer 500 (which I never liked).

  • redraider133

I am loving mine. It’s a great device and for the price you can’t beat it.

  • Prince77

I can Luke. I have a lot of games on my phone (Epic 4G Touch). I can take all of those games and put them on a 16GB Nexus 7 and won’t have to worry about draining my battery on my phone as much as I do. I can maybe put a movie or two on there if I choose, but I am getting it mostly to take the games off my phone.

    • LukeT32

Agreed, it would be wonderful for that, but the 10 minutes a day I randomly need to kill time wouldn’t be worth carrying the Nexus 7 around for. If I traveled more and spent time in airports I would buy one in a heart beat.

I understand, everyone has their own pros and cons to purchasing anything.

I thought about getting one, the price is sure right, but I think right now I’ll devote any extra funds into my beer brewing operation. :)

Where is my email? I was supposed to get an email? Has anyone else gotten the email?

  • Vince Siu

If you’re gonna go for a quality case and money and waiting isn’t an issue, portenzo has it’s promotional price on it’s nexus case. Which also takes advantage of the magnetic unlocking feature that was discovered; a’la iPad smart case (I’m sure they’ll get sued).

I would recommend getting the intellistand feature because it’s the best stand case without equal. As mentioned, Portenzo cases are pricey, but I think they are well worth it.

Here is a video of the intellistand on a kindle fire. See how the magnets lock it in book form and stand form.

  • GrendelJapan

FYI, if you root and install Stickmount, you can plug a thumb drive in using an OTG cable. Video streams flawlessly from a USB thumb drive to my N7.

That said, I did shell out for the 16GB one. It’s my first tablet and it is awesome. If you love tech and are on the fence about it, this is probably the most fun you can have for ~$200. I had tons of doubts about getting a tablet, but am really happy with the N7. That said, I am glad I waited until I could get a premium device at this price.

Just received my 8GB Nexus 7 and all I can say is that for my first Android device, I’m in love.

    • UCLA

Thts because you never tried the world market leader megaseller ipad.
Android is obsolete and last gen.

      • cb2000a

        LOL your funny…

    • Eric Rossman

Congratulations Jamal; I wish you many happy days enjoying your new gadgetry. :)

      Things I love about mine:
      1. having chrome running in desktop mode (proper).
      2. the screen is fantastic.
      3. no useless gimmickry like a rear camera.
      4. full Google support.
      5. JB is wonderfully smooth.

Only complaint to Google in the current JB (4.1.1 “JRO03D”):
-Fix the auto-rotation & locked rotation on the the desktop, I would like to lock into landscape mode as my preference. Apps and media players seem to have no problem working in landscape mode.

-take car thanks for letting me share. -Eric

      • jamal adam

Thanks! Jelly Bean is so butter smooth and the screen is just gorgeous. It’ll take me a couple of days to learn all about the amazing things that are on it. I agree that having auto-rotation to work in landscape mode on the home screen would be really nice. I have always been a big fan of android and now it feels good holding the nexus 7. Google has done an amazing job with the nexus 7.

      • Chris

Download Ultimate Rotation Control from the Play Store. It forces the N7 home screen to auto rotate, no root required.

  • TAN5150

I purchased a 16GB at Sam’s Club. No issues and just ordered the case from Google Play, hope it is worth the $19.99 plus $9.99 shipping. Didn’t see any other way to ship it but I should have the case in 2 days. I will post my thoughts on the case once I have it.

I wish Google made the Q more like the new Vizio Co-Star…

  • DonIsGood

So when is the 32Gb version coming out? ;-)

    • Mix

This is what I am waiting for, or at least something like this in 7″ form with removable storage.

There are some of us, who during the hype, were told to go to Gamestop
and reserve our Nexus 7. I pre ordered my Nexus 7 on the 17th of July.
Like most who did, I was told I would get it no later than September.
Almost in tears, like a grown man-child would, I turned around a made
the journey back home to cry on my pillow, in solitude, like a real man.
I google searched for three hours a day with no Gamestop news to
scratch my itch. Hungrier and hungrier I starved inside for an update,
only to be let down by Google searches from July 13th, and random
android forums where people gushed about their new affordable tablet.
Finally it came, Google is shipping more 16gb Nexus 7. Within days they
were sold out again.Sad, confused, and tired, I turned off my computer
and went to bed. Fast forward to today. My new day of Google searching
the Nexus 7 for any updates. I see Radioshack on the horizon, selling
Nexus 7, but wait I thought they were sold out. Then more good news,
Google has re-opened the Nexus 7 vault, and more 16gb tablets are on
sale. I rushed to my phone and called my local Gamestop. To my surprise,
the manager was on a conference call all about the Nexus. I waited
three hours and called again. SO HERE IT IS FOR ALL OF US WHO ARE
were getting a shipment in at least a week, no specific day was given. I
imagine I will finally get my hands on the tablet this time next week.
For the first time in 3 weeks I may sleep peacefully. With the help of a
    vodka and orange juice.

I really have wanted to order one but they were sold out on Google play and everywhere close to me. As soon as I got the email from Google Monday saying it was in stock, I almost bought one from them, but on a whim decided that maybe someone in my area had one already. Sears (yes, I said Sears) showed 1 in stock and I immediately put it into my cart and clicked buy. My order shows as being processed and I assume It will be ready to pick up tomorrow.

I’m super excited and glad I wasn’t scared off by the negative experiences some had. That happens with any device at launch so I’m ready for some Jelly Bean goodness. There were many complaints about the most recent iPad as well, from yellow screens to backlight leakage, and it’s a more expensive device. Bottom line, I can’t wait to get my Nexus 7. As far as justifying my purchase, I just said it’s a want and not a need. That’s all the justification I require. :-)

    • Dave

Did the same thing. I searched a forum & they listed they had them. The forum was Slickdeals. Instantly purchase it online Friday night. They sent me a email to say they were either closed or were closing within an hour, so they can’t process the order. Then the next day 54 minutes after opening, they sent me the email to say it was ready to pick up. Hopped up there by 10:30am, scanned my email barcode, dude instantly brought it out for me & I was ready to go. Sears just got all my love for that.

  • Dave

I bought the last one at Sears in my area (at my favorite mall coincidentally, Saturday) before Amazon sent me the email to say they’re in stock. I’m very happy with it. But the Stock keyboard sucks, & I bought SwiftKey 3 Tablet keyboard, & that sucks too. I thought it would be great since I use it on my Smartphone & love it, but nope. I type in Portrait mode, it just feels better & it works horrible like that. I always miss the a key, & at times it misses letter, Idk. I installed Swiftkey that I had already purchased for my Smartphone & I’m typing much better. I’m in love. Been using it non-stop since Saturday.

  • Raptor

It’s OK for kids, but is useless device for working adults. You will play with it a month, ok, may be two, and then it will be lost somewhere either under the bed or in the toilet, or will collect the dust in the basement like your old laptops. Get the phablets!

  • MoSDeeb

I had to order a replacement due to a faulty speaker and it just arrived today. Other than that it’s a great device

  • http://aboyandhistv.blogspot.com mvndaai

I bought one! I think it should come tomorrow. I am super excited about it.

Now that I have the update on my G-Nexus I’m getting one
