Video: Compared to Google Now, Siri is embarrassingly bad

I’m sure by now we’ve all seen our fair share of Google Now’s voice search functionality vs Apple’s Siri. Since the introduction of Jelly Bean, Android 4.1, and Google Now, comparison and demonstration videos have popped up all over online. But they’ve yet to be this hilarious.

In today’s Google Now vs Siri video, Annie Gaus of App Judgement has put the two services through a slightly different torture test to see which one reigns supreme. Instead of reading off a list of common commands and questions you might ask a personal assistant, she asked both an iPhone 4S and Nexus 7 things she’s asked her phone through web search in the week before making the video. The results speak for themselves. (Start watching at 3:15.)

The two most important things I took away from the video: For one, when asking Google Now for information, and there’s no card to show you directly, displaying the Google search results right away is incredibly powerful and useful. And secondly, Siri seriously loves stallions. Really.

For a certain reason, Siri wants to show the female host photos of a stallion :)) Simply beautiful! Hadn’t I tested Google Now myself, I would not believe the results. Bear in mind that I am not a native English speaker, Google Now performed just as well (I try to pronounce as well as I can).

The Jellybean search is great, but has so many issues with my New Zealand accent, so its really just novelty at the moment, as it has no idea what I am trying to tell it.

That is pretty awesome actually. Time to check it out more on the galaxy nexus.

I spent over an hour one night just asking it for celebrity heights.

    nice try, siri, haha

I wish my GSIII had Google Now instead of S-Voice. It doesn’t show stallions at least.

    • joe

How much you want to bet Samsung will stick with their s-voice instead of just dumping it and moving everyone to Google Now when they push the GS III’s JB update?

  • Taylor

Siri listens worse than my kids. How is that even possible?

  • Louis A

This is one of the reasons I am holding off getting GSIII because I wanna play with Jelly Bean on my Gnex.

    • Ryan

You can always get the S3 and still play with the Gnex with jelly bean..thats what Im doing.

    • Mike C

I’m running JB on my S3 as of today, and yes it’s very nice. Still a few bugs, but I’m willing to work with them.

  • masterpfa

Hilarious for real, what’s the obsession with Stallions Siri.

Siri I admit changed the game, Google Now just made it better.

    Round 2 to Google

    • Panerai

I’d say it’s round 3. Android had voice commands first. I remember playing around with it on my 1st gen xperia running froyo or was it eclair?

  • txbluesman

That sh#t is funny, I don’t care who you are!

  • Dan Jones

Am I the only person who is reminded of Eliza when they hear Siri’s responses?

  • Miknitro

Pretty entertaining, Siri is not even in the same league as GN. Kind of like a glorified speak an spell my Gawd that’s embarrassing when I think of it lol.

  • Jorge Eslava

This is hilarious! I’m definitively sharing.

  • Alex Belko

Awesome video and everything, but I just have one question for all of you:

Would you like me to search the web for pictures of stallions?

  • Jill

All the Android S3′s that we’ve tried have the same problems:

It recognizes what we say, about 90% of the time.
It has the answer about 20% of the time.

It CONSTANTLY wants “Hi, Galaxy” to be spoken over and over again.
    Why is that necessary?
Why does it have to be “awakened” so many times????

I just asked something 2 seconds ago… and you couldn’t answer it… why do you detect that as “we are done for today, bye”.

Makes the entire thing totally unusable.

  • WlfHart

Haha, more proof Google > Apple.

  • Tony

Siri is such a dumb bitch lol

  • CactusCat

I suddenly have this overwhelming urge to look at pictures of stallions.

  • Stephen ward

I did the same test with my I phone 4s running IOS 6 beta and my old nexus s, and the nexus s won hands down, it’s embarrassing how bad siri still is compared the Google now in its first incarnation

  • Chris

I have to say this is all true, just seting up my bosses siri for her and it cant even say her name, Lexie it says dexi leiixe lexxe her name is lexie. Google now on my note2 says lexie straight up
