Android Gaming Weekly: XArm, Granny Smith, Fart vs Zombies

Welcome back to the return of our regular column Android Gaming Weekly, where we recap all the new releases and highlights every Wednesday. We post small bits throughout the week related to Android games, but readers have requested a condensed summary that makes it easier to keep up with all the latest news. Read on for this week’s best in Android gaming.

Top 10 New Android Games This Week

Developer says: “Granny Smith loves her apples, but a bewheeled thief is stealing from her precious garden! Help Mrs. Smith as she swiftly skates through farmland and cityscapes, crashing through everything from barns to offices in the pursuit of fruit. Get to the apples before the thief does!”

Taylor says: This game comes from Mediocre, the developers behind another awesome title called Sprinkle. They produce quality games, so I already went ahead and purchased the game.

Developer says: “Action-packed mix of extreme arm wrestling and MMA, from the creator of the UFC. XARM is a hybrid sport like MMA, but more. It combines arm wrestling, grappling, kickboxing and Jiu-Jitsu, with the fighters tethered arm-to-arm across a small XARM table.”

Taylor says: I had heard of this sport, but didn’t know it was still around. The game looks ridiculous and I’m a fan of MMA, so I’m installing this now.

Developer says: “Get ready for breathtaking challenges and unique thrills riding official Ducati motorbikes in a graphically stunning 3D racing game. Wheelies, stoppies, overtaking, high speed and steering precision make Ducati Challenge a must-have game for Ducati and motorbike fans alike.”

Taylor says: Android has no shortage of racing games, but this might be a purchase if you are a hardcore fan of Ducati bikes. The asking price is $2.38, so you might want to wait for some more reviews to come in before you buy.

Developer says: “Create your own colony on a mysterious planet in a compelling space adventure! 2088 AD: For ten years, brave men and women have explored the galaxy, searching for life and colonizing worlds. A scout robot named E.A.R.L., dispatched to the distant planet Mochwoi, reported strange energy readings… and then mysteriously aborted its mission. Today, your heroic space crew descends upon Mochwoi to pick up where E.A.R.L. left off. Join Breck Powers and explore this amazing new world!”

Taylor says: Gameloft has gone mad trying to cash in on these freemium games. It feels like every week they have some new city building game and I’m not really a fan.

Developer says: “Easy to play yet difficult to master, Stick Tennis offers fast and fluid gameplay with realistic court surfaces and a huge range of unique player styles and characteristics. With just a simple one-fingered swipe you’ll soon be thumping crosscourt winners, yet at the core of Stick Tennis is a highly sophisticated physics engine that rewards tactical play.”

Taylor says: Looks pretty fun for a tennis game. It’s free to play the first couple levels and then in-app purchase unlocks additional challenges.

Developer says: “An entirely new breed of RPG has risen from the smoldering ashes of Haradan. You, as one of 6 legendary warriors known as “Scorpions”, are entrusted to defeat the terrifying Sovering and save the land. Venture into a surreal 3D world to slay over 100 horrifying beasts and complete perilous quests on your way to an epic final battle against the formidable demon! After eons of ceaseless bloodshed, the time to destroy civilization’s greatest adversary has come. Can you take on the legion and fight your way to freedom?”

Taylor says: Looks like an awesome RPG game, but early reviews are complaining you need to use in-app purchase to advance in the game after you pass the first couple levels.

Developer says: “Colonel John Farter, an American officer who has spent seven years in a North Vietnamese POW camp, has just returned to discover his hometown full of zombies. And his only weapon against them is his ass. Join Farter as he join his old friend Banana Max and, together, free the town from The Evil Unicorn and his army of zombies!”

Taylor says: Need I say anything? Give it a try.

Developer says: “Become the strongest monster trainer by collecting and fusing over 500 unique monsters! Encounter fearsome monsters, journey through distant lands, and battle friends in Monster Paradise!”

Taylor says: This totally looks like a Pokemon ripoff, which might be a good thing.

Developer says: “Perform amazing stunts with a stunt car! Drive on tracks with jumps and obstacles! Do a corkscrew stunt, make flips to get achievement coins! Start playing the fun tracks right now, and challenge yourself to get three stars from all levels!”

Taylor says: This one gets a mention since the developer Hyperkani has produced some other addictive games.

Developer says: “College is about to get more interesting. Get ready for the biggest online party you’ve seen since moving out of your parents’ basement. Fill up the dorms with new roommates while completing jobs and joining clubs to make your reputation soar. Every dance off and prank gets you one step closer to becoming the most popular student on campus! Orientation is one tap away.”

Taylor says: For those that haven’t been to college yet…

Android Games Coming Soon

GluMobile just released a teaser video for the sequel to Blood & Glory. The original was an awesome gladiator slasher, so I’m looking forward to the latest release. The game is already available on iOS, so it should hit Android any day now.

This week Rovio started teasing their new game called Bad Piggies. It appears to be a spin-off of Angry Birds and looks to tell the story of the green pigs.

Western Story is an upcoming game about cowboys and the wild west, and it looks awesome. Details about the gameplay are limited, but it features lots of classic stars like Chuck Norris, Clint Eastwood and more. The game is coming to Facebook first and then Android later this year. Hit up the official site for more details.

I still can’t believe these graphics are from a mobile game, but Electronic Arts released another teaser video for their upcoming Real Racing 3. Poor reviews plagued Real Racing 2, but we have hopes the latest in the series will deliver.

Games I’m currently playing

Eternity Warriors 2: I’m not sure why I sunk hours into this RPG, but I did. The game is free to play and it includes online multiplayer. It’s free to play with in-app purchase to upgrade your weapons, but I have made it pretty far without spending a dime. There is a lot of grinding, but the multiplayer keeps it entertaining.

Juggernaut Revenge of Sovering is pretty fun – yes, it’s a HUGE game, but there’s no graphical hiccups that I can see and gameplay is interesting as well with LOTS of customizations – I haven’t hit the “must purchase X to continue playing” though…

    • Taylor Wimberly

      Ok I’m checking it out.

      • dirtynate

  • NotRelevent

I’ve been playing Dead Trigger a lot. It’s rather addicting for some reason. Oh and Asphalt 7.

  • Martin Sven

I am currently playing Virtua Tennis Challenge its for me the best tennis game out there and its free for SGS3 owners. Also I am looking forward to Real Racing 3 I only hope they will not abandon the buyers like they did in Real Racing 2. The game is simply crashing all the time and you cant progress thru the game.

  • RockinDroid!

I will look our for Real Racing 3…not sure how the gameplay will be but the trailer already has me hooked

  • John Phillips

Does anyone know when is horn releasing? Do you know Taylor?

    • Josue

Hey John, earlier in the comments Taylor answered someone else on horn with a “Tomorrow…”, which would mean today. Not sure where he’s getting that info, but I sure hope he’s right. I’ve been green with envy that the game is on iOS. Can’t wait to check it out on android.

  • ksjones66
