Nearly-stock Android 4.0.4 Acer Liquid Gallant and Gallant Duo unveiled ahead of IFA

Looking to get a head-start on the IFA announcements from the major Android players, Acer has unveiled two new Android 4.0.4 powered handsets – the Liquid Gallant and Liquid Gallant Duo. Both handsets are identical, save for a second SIM card slot on the Liquid Gallant Duo for those who simply can’t live with just one SIM card in their phone. Acer’s new Android phones are not going to compete with most high-end phones, but we’re sure you’ll be pleased to hear that both devices are running a bare-bones version of Android with only a few added widgets and system tweaks.

Both phones feature a 1GHz MT6575, 1GB RAM, 4.3-inch qHD display, 1,500mAh battery, 4GB of internal storage, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth 3.0 + EDR, 5 MP rear camera with LED flash with 2.5D, touch to focus and panoramic mode, and improved audio with a virtual enhanced Surround Sound feature which can be used during calls or while listening to music.

The Acer Liquid Gallant and Gallant Duo will both be available in Gentle Black and Ceramic White. The Liquid Gallant Duo will be hitting store shelves in September with the single-SIM variant expected to show up several weeks later. Acer is not talking about prices yet, but we don’t expect either of these phones to fall into the premium category with the HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S III.

We’re not planning to line up to buy the Acer Liquid Gallant or Gallant Duo, but do hope that the major Android players like Samsung, HTC, Motorola and Sony take note of Acer’s nearly stock Android 4.0.4 build on both phones.

Ya a phone must really have quad core 1509853 GHz processor…

Son’y been behind on the spec curve since the very beginning, but they keep gaining market share. It’s all about price and how you position the handset in the market.

Few things i look for when purchasing android phones now is specs, history of build quality and experience for that company, and support in the developer community such as xda. Thats how you know your phone can stay relevant for atleast 2-3 years. Safe to go with flagship phones since you know many developers will be working on it. “Android-based” phones are not the same as Pure Android (nexus) phones.
