Top 10 Android game releases this week: Pocket Planes, GT Racing, Indestructible

This week we are taking another break from our Android Gaming Weekly recap and just focusing on new releases. We still plan to cover upcoming releases and games we are playing, but this new column is just dedicated to new games you can install and start playing right now. Check out our top picks and let us know if you have any suggestions for next week in the comments below.

1. Pocket Planes

Description: From the creators of Tiny Tower comes Pocket Planes, a casual airline sim that fits right in your pocket! Manage and grow your fleet of planes as they fly interesting people and cargo to over 250 cities around the map. Unlock everything from tiny prop planes to jumbo jets and small town airports to mega cities. Trade plane parts among your friends, and compete in worldwide group events.

Taylor says: Join my flight crew “AAM” and we will rule the air.

2. Indestructible

Description: Blow some %^&* up in this fully 3D, online multiplayer action game! Grab the wheel, load up your guns, hit the road and leave the mangled wrecks of your victories in the dust as you battle to become the best in the exciting vehicular combat game Indestructible!

Taylor says: No one produces more quality Android games on a regular basis than Glu Mobile. No one.

3. GT Racing: Hyundai Edition

Description: The best racing simulation returns in a special free Hyundai Edition. Try two of the newest and most revolutionary cars from this iconic Korean automaker.

Taylor says: It’s free to play like the first edition. If you enjoy this racing game then make sure to grab Asphalt 7 while it is on sale for $0.25.

4. Offworld

Description: Battle through the galaxy using giant mechs in an epic story-driven quest! You are the galaxy’s greatest bounty hunter. You’ve just received a new contract to hunt down Ace Stokes. Using your army of Strikers — giant war mechs — you’ll visit multiple planets and meet many characters in a lengthy quest!

Taylor says: This is the developer behind Strikefleet Omega, which is one of my all time favorite defense games.

5. PAC-MAN Kart Rally

Description: The race is on! Head for the finish line with PAC-MAN Kart Rally by Namco! The arcade icon takes to the open road against his famous Namco friends, including Dig Dug, the Prince from Katamari Damacy and even the Galaga ship! Master the power-sliding technique to fly around corners and cut off the competition! Watch out for power-ups, bonus items and speed boosts to gain the upper hand.

Taylor says: Looks like a Mario Kart clone, and that’s a good thing.

6. Bad Nerd

Description: See a nerd unleash the nerd rage like never before! Join Bad Nerd in his quest to rid the school of bullies! You will be fighting all sorts of bullies, taking their lunch money to upgrade yourself with a wide range of weapons and armor!

Taylor says: The goal of the developer is to eventually evolve this into an open-world sandbox MMORPG. They just added Chapter 2, so this is a good time to check it out and provide your feedback.

7. Desert Stormfront

Description: Desert Stormfront is a Real-Time Strategy (RTS) game situated in the Middle East. You play on hot desert landscapes for power and oil. Units at your disposal include Humvees, Tanks, Artillery, Mechanics, Helicopters, Planes, Ships and Submarines amongst others. Desert Stormfront supports multiplayer games over LAN and internet including co-op multiplayer.

Taylor says: Some might not remember, but this developer released Age of Conquest several years ago and it was one of my favorite strategy games in the early days of Android.

8. Drawdle

Description: Drawing + Physics. Featuring realistic physics, charming visuals and relaxing music, Drawdle makes for a puzzle experience unlike any other. In each level, draw a shape in the drawing area, then swipe your drawing to knock it into a paint balloon to fill in a doodle.

Taylor says: I picked this one because Clark and Angie love Draw Something.

9. 10 Pin Shuffle Bowling

Description: 10 Pin Shuffle is one of the most addictive, “pick up and play”, 3D bowling games available on Google Play. A huge hit on iPhone devices, 10 Pin Shuffle is now available for Android phones and tablets. 10 Pin Shuffle contains three great games in one, played in a realistic 3D environment!

Taylor says: Includes bowling, shuffleboard, and 10 Pin Poker.

10. Wingsuit Stickman

Description: Did you ever dream of flying down the highest mountains in the world? Now it’s your time, join the Wingsuit Stickman experience, pack your wingsuit and glide through beautiful landscapes, cross the Alps, fly down the Rocky Mountains or enter a deadly volcano while performing insane stunts, scaring birds and plane pilots and simply enjoy the wonderful experience of a perfect wingsuit proximity flight.

Taylor says: Stickman games have really become popular lately. This developer is cranking them out and has about a dozen to pick from.

Honorable Mentions

Voxel Invaders: With Voxel Invaders you will enjoy the simplicity and vintage feeling of the classical game “Space Invaders” boosted by incredible voxel graphics and 3D effects.

Nightmarium: The most terrifying game ever (not really)! Try to sleep after playing. In the world of Nightmarium, things are not as they seem! Simple, everyday objects in the real world can be very useful in the dream world.

ShadowRun: This is not another clone of Temple Run. This is the runner with original mechanic “running fingers”! Run using your fingers simulating running legs! Avoid obstacles, jump over them, release from the traps and the main thing – do not run away from the path!

Velocispider: Part Spider, Part Velociraptor, it’s Velocispider!!! Take control of a heavily armed araknasaur in this retro arcade shoot-em-up.

Neon Blitz: A simple & addictive puzzle game: light the neon signs in a blitz of 60 seconds!

Subway Surfers: JOIN the world famous chase. Help Jake escape from the grumpy Inspector! DASH as fast as you can! DODGE the oncoming trains!

In “Kid’s education” recommend “Learn Coloring” free.

It is an application that allows you to draw and color, and the content apart from being very entertaining for children’s is educational and takes them to learn new languages, learn the names of animals, food, a few letters and numbers, also learn to count, compete in various challenges.

Gaming is here to stay on Android! I’m impressed by the large number of quality titles that are being released weekly. Go Android!

I was very disappointed to see a title like “ShadowRun” and note it has absolutely nothing to do with the post-Awakened world…

Indestructible is a very fun game. The controls are dead easy. Hold the left control stick in the direction you want to move, and hold the right control stick in the direction you want to shoot. Easy to pick up, and fun to play.

The only downside is that to get better cars, you have to do in-app purchases.

    • iamXiV92a

That’s no good. I’m loving Pocket Planes (on the Galaxy Nexus) and it’s a very nice change from Tiny Tower, where I feel like I’m in the run around. I can’t seem to get anyone to move in and take over the jobs for the floors that I had. Hopefully they’ll support the Nexus 7 soon!

  • Joshua

Oh, and the game is Indestructible… your title says Indestructable…
