Another source says LG Nexus device in the works

Last week we reported that LG might be working on a Nexus device, and now another source has come forward with similar information. The Spanish blog MovilZona is reporting that a person connected with Vodafone told them that the next Nexus device would be made by LG.

We don’t know much about the credibility of this blog or their source, but this could be the first confirmation of our LG Nexus rumor. Vodafone sold both the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus, so it is plausible that they could be preparing to launch another Nexus phone this year.

Since I wrote that the LG Optimus G could be the base for a Nexus device, I have received additional information. A trusted source told me they believe LG’s Nexus device will feature a phablet-sized display, which could be the basis of the Nexus 5 rumor that appeared this week.

At this point I’m not really confident in any of these details, but the noise of a LG Nexus device is definitely getting louder. We have reached out to some of our old school sources to see if we can dig up any additional information, and you can be sure we will be all over the next Nexus when it finally appears.

So the rumor so far is Lg, Sony, Samsung, and HTC. To me the HTC specs are the most intruiging. When they’re announced I’ll make my choice, but if the rumors are true HTC it is.

    • thekaz

Well, to be fair, there were rumors a while back that there could be up to 5 manufacturers creating the next Nexus devices.

I am intrigued by the LG device, but I think there is so much negativity out there for LG that I’ll need to wait and see what it is. If it is indeed a phablet, I think I will pass — not what I am looking for. If it is more like the Optimus G, then perhaps…

      • With there being potential of multiple Nexus devices I like the idea of different sizes and different specs I just hope they all get announced at the same time so I can choose the one that fits best. I like the HTC phone leaks I’ve heard and LG’s Optimus G I just hope one is actually real and to get that quad-core processor.

          The fifth manufacturer being Asus

The negativity for LG devices in my experience has been primarily due to their slow update cycles and ugly interface. I love my Nitro HD with CM10 and an LG Nexus would, imo, be a match made in heaven.

  • Sadiq

Been waiting three years to upgrade to a Nexus. Tired of using the same ‘ol iPhones for the past 5 years.

    • uzunoff

Why didn’t you get the Galaxy Nexus? You didn’t have to wait that long.

      • Adam

No way would I get a galaxy nexus at this point unless it s $100 off contract. The camera is awful and fresh lineis due out over the next few months.

  • Jeff

As long as “LG” isn’t printed on the front, I’m fine with it. Since having the G-Nex, I don’t think I could get anything front branded…I love the clean, logo-less front too much.

  • triangle

Cool. Thanks, Taylor. I think that LG could breakthrough with a Nexus because there is no LG software involved, it would be pure android.

I still wouldn’t touch one of their skinned products though because I think they need to build trust that they will update their phones in a timely manner, which no one believes right now. But since a nexus would be updated by google (hopefully without a lot carrier interference), this wouldn’t be a problem.

  • shadhussain

a 5″ nexus phablet would probably sell very well, but won’t it also cannibalize into 7″ tablet sales?

  • Kenneth

That be awesome if it comes to sprint that was definitely going to be my next up grade due in November just in time for a birthday present to myself

  • frettfreak

I will be getting a Nexus for sure…. which one will depend on specs though. I DO NOT WANT A 5″ PHONE!!! This is getting ridiculous….. Whats next, an 10.1″ phone?? seriously its getting ridiculous.

    4.5″, top end phone. DONE.

    • Dave Clary

Seeing how the current Nexus is 4.65, and the big seller SGIII even larger, I doubt the next Nexus will downsize.

That’s sad. I love big screens, but since GNex I can’t type well with one hand, and dropped it a few times before learning to balance it on my hand.
It’s sometimes impossible to use it while commuting.
I almost went from my GNex to a One S just for that.

        • Dags -

I can Swype easily with just my thumb on the GNex. Typing is so last century ;).

      • RobBull75

Ideally, the new Nexus line will have multiple sizes from 4-5 inches.

  • jamal adam

A larger Optimus G perhaps? These days LG has been showcasing their new technology and all other great features and it would be nice to see it on the Nexus.

  • Mix

I was all excited and pumped till I read about the phablet sized screen.

I know a lot of people love em but I like around 4.5″.

Taken of of context, that could be bad…

  • Dan

I think everyone is making a Nexus phone….

  • Orion78

I’m loving this! I can’t wait until all these phones are unleashed. It’s going to be interesting to see which one will be the best overall.

final nail in the coffin for LG

  • Ardrid

I really these various rumors bear fruit. It would be fantastic for us as consumers to have a number of stock Android devices to choose from. I’m personally pushing for LG, HTC, or Sony based devices; I would kill for an Xperia Nexus.

  • renyo

If they give me a Full HD screen Nexus, I’m definitely buying it!

  • Nathan D.

I’m still waiting for that press conference, so we can put this behind us. Sadly this might not happen until mid to late October or even November.

  • Technodork

I believe that there will be 5 different manufacturers all with a 5 inch display commending the five years of android. Let’s hope I’m right!

  • Me

Id love the next Nexus to be made by LG but its gotta have at least the S4 Pro and 2 gigs of RAM and a killer HD screen, Im rocking a current LG phone and loving their new non-intrusive UI overlay, smooth as butter, LG has really stepped their game up.

Why doesn’t Google just take Motorola and turn it in to the ONLY Nexus phone provider!?
They should just make 3 models, from a budget one with decent specs to a super phone with killer hardware features! All running pure stock Google, with all the timely updates, sold online through Play Store! Now that would be something that would stir the current state of things!
A Nexus phone for everyone, for every budget! I’m sure people would flock to those by the millions! Just like people did when they went after the Nexus 7.. it was all because it was pure Google with great specs!
The problem with the Nexus phone is that the manufactures will never put it ahead of their flagship devices.
Google has the biggest mobile OS in the world right now and it owns a mobile manufacturer! Developing software for your own hardware at the same time is better! Apple has been doing it for years and now Microsoft has finally gotten the picture too.
Imagine what a bold move it would have been if the 3 phones in the latest line of RAZR phones that Motorola released weren’t named RAZR, but named NEXUS (with all the goodness that that implies!) and sold at exactly the same price.
Wouldn’t you be thinking about getting one for yourself? I know I would!

  • BigCiX

Whoever makes the next Nexus ill have an upgrade waiting for it.

  • Papapau

My next phone is definitely gonna be the next nexus.

  • hector

    I want a Nexus based on Xperia T, not a 5″ monster.

  • Tom Peterson

I hope Google didn’t choose LG over Sony, and LG is just one of the many Nexus makers this fall.

  • walker

LG has been quite famous for their technology breakthroughs and innovation. Yet overshadowed by Samsung. Don’t get me wrong, I was so close to getting an S3 or a Note 2. LG’s only let down in their mobile devices has mainly been software. It wouldn’t have been such a great impact for me in the past but software means so much more these days other than just fixing some tiny bugs. Battery saving, implementation of new features…

If the LG Nexus rumor is true, it’s truly a great chance to make a turn for their reputation. I’ve been interested in their Optimus G, I don’t mind about the lack of a micro sd slot and sealed battery. I’ve been using a iphone for three years. I don’t see why not for an Android device.
I have tiny, chubby hands and I prefer using both my hands on an iphone. Yes, an 3.5 inch screen iphone. A bigger screen means that I don’t have to stress my bad eyes.

But then, if its a HTC Nexus, I am more than happy to give it a shot as well as their One X was quite pleasing as well.

LG hardware adnd google software. That can’t be better!

    • RobBull75

The problem I can see with an LG Nexus phone is that, while Google writes the OS, LG writes the drivers. That was a disaster with the O2X/G2x, as the screen driver caused the dreaded screen of death. It took them a year to fix the problem.
