Android Rookies: 10 new apps worth checking out this week

New apps need lovin’ too, right? Every day there are thousands of new entries on the Google Play store, but many go unnoticed and never receive the attention they deserve. We have shown in the past that this community can discover great apps and launch them to new heights, so we’re bringing back our weekly column Android Rookies that highlights new apps with less than 100k installs. Browse our new Android app picks below and let us know which ones you enjoy.

I love my Bamboo ePad for digital signing and hand writing.. excited to try the app. Interesting that another picture/text delete app surfaces. The challenge with all of them is that both parties have to have the app and they seem to stall on that point. Thanks for the gems as always!

    I love these apps <3

Isn’t AMOLED type of a LED screen.. and in LED, there is a common light source, and maximum power is used when pixels try to block that light and show black color.
    Am I missing something here?
Plasma screens on the other hand benefit from black screens.

Actually it isn’t the same technology as in TVs. In OLED and AMOLED screens every pixel is made from tiny LED lights, so black is actually represented by turning off the respective LEDs (that’s actually a simplistic explanation, I’m sure if you Google AMOLED you’ll find more info)

Um, Untappd is hardly a “Rookie”. The latest update was over a month ago, and it’s been in the Play Store (and before the rename, the Android Market) since February.
That said, it’s an OK app. I’ve used it a few times, but found that with at least the versions I was using, it was essentially just a shell for a HTML view of their mobile website. Don’t expect the same sort of experience that you’d get with Foursquare (or Gowalla, before they gave up on the location-game business).

Been using Untappd since the end of December. Not a rookie app.

I’m thinking this could be a case of a hipster getting PBR on tap somewhere and “discovering” a new way to tell everyone about it on Facebook.

Going to try out the parking app, sounds good! My wife is going to love it.

  • Zach

How did Untappd make the rookie list? I’ve been using it for ages.
