China Telecom launching Huawei Ascend D2 tomorrow for $640

The Huawei Ascend D2 made its official debut at CES only eight days ago, but that’s certainly not keeping China Telecom from being the first mobile carrier to bring the phone to market. China Telecom will start selling a dual-sim equipped Huawei Ascend D2 tomorrow for ¥3,990 (roughly $640).

The price may seem a bit steep for a Chinese phones, but he D2 is running Android 4.1 and is equipped with Huawei’s K3V2 1.5 GHz quad-core CPU, a 5-inch 1080 x 1920 IPS display, 13 megapixel camera with BSI sensor, 32GB of internal storage and a 3,000 mAh battery, which Huawei claims is cable or recharging 25 percent faster than the Samsung Galaxy SIII.

Huawei is expected to launch the Ascend D2 in Japan next, but a European launch should soon be on the horizon. Traditionally, Huawei’s North American offerings have been limited to low-end, budget phones. We have a feeling that’s going to change as Huawei shoulders its way into the premium handset segment.

If they end up bringing it here, I’d say $640 is a little pricey for this device. Granted it has top of the line hardware, but they don’t have the “Name” to back it up yet. I still want this phone though!

The price may seem a bit high, but it does include a 17% sales tax. Remove the tax and the price of the handset drops to about $545.

That’s actually very reasonable. For that price, I could see regionals like Cincinnati Bell picking this up and subsidising it for $200 to $300.

Similar in stats and price to the galaxy note 2 except for the battery. Note 2 battery is larger and the note probably last longer on a charge than this phone.

    Needs to come to America.

I would go with the note 2 over this kinda ugly looking phone. If it’s gonna be that big it could be more attractive

It’s going to be an uphill battle at that price for someone relatively unknown in the mainstream market.
