HTC to beat MWC rush with February 19 press events

After a quiet CES it looks like HTC is finally ready to take the wraps off whatever it has up its sleeve for the new year. The favorite is of course the oft-rumored and sometimes glimpsed HTC M7.

In a move that mirrors what we’ve seen from many of the other major manufacturers, HTC is choosing its own battle ground in scheduling press events 6 days prior to the Mobile World Congress, which runs February 25-28 in Barcelona.

There are two separate events–one in New York and another in London–but presumably they will be identical in content. (Well other than the pronunciation of aluminum.)

The M7 is rumored to be the device that finally allows HTC to consolidate around one hero phone, a strategy that has paid off in spades for Samsung with the Galaxy S III. It will also usher in Sense 5; from what little we’ve seen, this will be a welcome scaling back of the HTC skin.

HTC has a chance to own the dialogue running into MWC with these events. Whatever the company is going to announce, let’s hope for HTC’s sake that it is enough.

I hope they can deliver something amazing and something that will save them… I am a big HTC fan… And I can’t wait to see what they pull off…

    • alexx

You should know they will deliver something amazing, that’s all they’ve been doing since very beginning looking before samsung and android and iOS. It HTC!

      • SGB101

Don’t know why the vote down, so true HTC was the bullocks before android!

They just need to master marketing and they will be there. They do great phones, their model just needs a tweak!

Nice try from this near-bankrupt company, chapter 11 incoming…..

          • Jorge Eslava

I know that HTC has been having financial problems lately, but they have always made great products. I’ve used them since before Android camo along.

            You’re absolutely right. I’m sure HTC – a Taiwanese company – will be filing a chapter 11 bankruptcy – a U.S. bankruptcy code – any day now.

HTC can we get this phone on ALL carriers this time!

    • Nate B.

With the same name and launch date. And then take care of it like its their baby and support it.

      • alexanderharri3

Definitely one thing HTC needs to do better is support for their devices after launch. Coming from a thunderbolt, the initial software was good despite feature incomplete, but every software release after felt more like an intern project than a thorough update. With 50 models a year, I’d imagine it’s hard to support all, but just look at Samsung’s main galaxy s (2 and 3 and note) line and the updates they get.

final nail in the coffin for HTC

    • alexx

You asshole, lol, stop saying that on every HTC post you fruit muncher

      • http://www.focuszonedevelopment.com Homncruse

He says it on every post period, regardless of the topic.

  • surethom

Fantastic, can wait to see this phone, finally a High end flagship phone that is Not 5″ or bigger, a 4.7″ phone sounds way better, hopefully this phone will not be as wide as the Galaxy S3, also love the camera on the latest HTC’s

Hopefully the battery will last all day then this might be my next new phone.

  • alexanderharri3

Might as well announce a month before MWC… It’ll be like that soon enough… Kind of defeats purpose of MWC itself. Not everyone can be own-event apple.

Hopefully HTC can pull off a one line all carrier launch… They’ll need it.

    • http://www.focuszonedevelopment.com Homncruse

I had the same thought. Samsung, Apple, Google, and now HTC all have their own launch events. Pretty soon, MWC will be another CES with no real presence from the big guys.

  • heat361

they are going to release the m7 on all carriers, I can confirm personally that there will be a sprint one.

    • heat361

Why did I get thumbs down for in was giving some information. Haters

      • http://www.focuszonedevelopment.com Homncruse

Because it’s the internet and just saying something doesn’t automatically give you credibility.

I can personally confirm that the M7 will contain an octo-core CPU with each core running at 1 THz and 64 TB of RAM. It’ll be powered by a miniature cold fusion battery with battery life measured in centuries. It’ll have such a large amount of internal storage that you can store not one, not two, but ELEVEN copies of the entire internet.

But it still won’t have an SD card slot or removable battery.

  • renyo

Hell yeah! They’re finally gonna stick with one phone name on the top! If they get it right, Galaxy S will definitely have competition not just as a device but as a brand name of HTC!

  • Nate B.

“Well other than the pronunciation of aluminum”

    That really made me laugh.

Lets hope HTC gets it right. One phone, global launch, nothing exclusive, same name, and support it.

  • nandy

go htc, reveal a device thats gonna kick samsung and sony in the butt

  • redraider133

Can’t wait to see what they announce and hopefully availability will be shortly after announcement not months later.

  • Nathan D.

Please, be a winner, I feel Kinda bad that HTC isn’t doing so well like it use to.

    • donger

      Agreed with you fully.

    • http://www.focuszonedevelopment.com Homncruse

Agreed; I *want* to like your products HTC, I really do… I WANT to see you succeed. But like the blonde joke goes, no matter how much you want/pray for something, you still have to buy the lottery ticket before you can win the lottery.

  • Prince77

I want to see what this device is all about. I’m debating on getting this one or waiting for the the GS4. If I like what I see on Feb 19th then I will be heading to Verizon on the day it is released.

  • jb

Sorry but I am not pleased with htcs lack of support, as well as thier intentional slow to release updates to the carriers for flagship devices. I’ve been a fan since the release of the g1, bit I’m not happy that my one s still had no jelly bean. If I can’t get my phone updated to the current and best performance, then is time to reconsider my brand support.

  • jamal adam

I want an excellent phone, wonderful marketing, one design to rule them all, a lag free and less heavy Sense 5.0 UI, on all 4 carriers (the more the merrier), and launched soon after the unveiling (like a month or less). I know HTC can do it and I’m waiting for them to get back up swinging and taking charge.

I would like to know when is HTC or Verizon going to give us Droid DNA users the Accessories we need for our DNA devices now? I personally would like to see a few docking stations, like a Car dock, and a HDMI dock, and a Lapdock!!! Instead there just going to throw us away in place of that M7 come on!!! When are u users going to get mad and make waves?
