Google took the redesign of Android very seriously when they first launched Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich. Going as far as creating a custom font for use throughout the OS, named Roboto. Outside of Android, Roboto rarely makes an appearance in Google products, but it looks like that’s about to change.
If you head on over to the web-based version of the Google Play store right now, you’ll notice things look a bit different. Perhaps a bit more modern. That’s because Google has revamped all of the text in the Play store with Roboto.
Overall, I think Roboto looks good on a website. The Play store feels more like a bridge to Android now than it ever has before. But it’s not perfect. As Android Police’s Eric Ravenscraft points out, smaller font doesn’t scale as nicely as other more popular web-fonts. Other than that, it works well. It’s a relatively small change that makes a big difference.
