Leaked image shows off black HTC One

We’ve seen quite a few leaked pictures of the HTC One over the past month, but today we’re getting our first look at the black model wrapped in metal. No new handset details are revealed with the image, but we took a little time out of our day to see how big HTC’s new handset will be compared to the HTC One X.

If the rumors hold up, the HTC One will feature a 4.7-inch display–the same exact size as the display featured on last year’s One X. Matching up the height of the two displays in Photoshop shows that the HTC One X is slightly wider than the HTC One, though the HTC One is a little bit taller. Unfortunately, our sizing comparison could be a little off; the aspect ratios of the two displays do not appear to match. When overlaying the devices to match the height of the screen, we noticed that the screen of the HTC one is wider than that of the HTC One X. We’re not sure if the HTC One display aspect ratio will be different than that of the One X, but it’s clear that the two phones will be very close in size.

What are your thoughts on the new image of the black HTC One? A few technology blogs are saying HTC is ripping of the design of the iPhone 5, but we’re not so sure. We’ll reserve judgment on the matter until we get our hands on the device on February 19 in New York.

Kind of meh to me. Not really digging the looks of the new sense(from the leaks and pictures) and this doesn’t really look anything different. Think they should have went more along the lines of the DNA with these specs.

final nail in the coffin for HTC

i agree, final nail in the coffin for htc

There is also a tablet in store for the event :)

Is it me, or does it look like the latest iPhone?

    • oddball

No it’s not just you. My first thought when I saw it was Iphone.

      • http://htcsource.com Nick Gray

If you’re thinking of the back of the iPhone 5… maybe. But I don’t see any similarities when the fronts of both devices are put side by side.

        • jamal adam

It seems to me like it resembles the blackberry z10 more than it does the iphone.

        • R.S

It’s because Apple has the world convinced that a rectangular shape with rounded off edges equals copying the iPhone.

        • SGB101

Yes the back, as u dont own an iPhone I only ever see the two tone black, of the rear of them, and the front of the new One, looks the spit of it to me.

          • SGB101

            Meant I not u^

    • inviolable

I don’t know why people keep saying that. Like Nick said, if you’re talking about the back of the iPhone, maybe, but I think it looks very similar to the Blackberry Z10.

    • c1liu

This very closely resembles what was shown to be the “iPhone 5″ on a lot of tech sites prior to the iPhone 5 launch. But IMO the actual thing doesn’t look that much like it when put side by side. It’s also taller and wider, although I personally like phones that aren’t quite as wide. For example, the old Nexus S seems to be around the perfect size for a phone in my book.

    • cainneach

      Looks more like Blackberry Z10.

  • Jaymoon

Um, so where are the home/back buttons?

Are they on-screen, capacitive, or just plain forgotten?

    • http://htcsource.com Nick Gray

The image shows capacitive home and back buttons below the screen.

    • vforvortex

Real question is, why is any android device still using capacitive buttons after android 4.1?

  • Thomas Biard

For some reason I love black phones. White is very appealing and shows off the detail and the artistic design from further away, however black hides a lot of wear and tear and looks more sleek and stealth.

Just my opinion. I would love this One

  • alexanderharri3

The black is nice, probably nicer than the white – less dirt potential! As for the software…Android meets WP8?

    • http://htcsource.com Nick Gray

It’s a new new/social media widget. If you don’t like it, just remove it from the home screen.

  • txbluesman

Some compare the looks to that fruit phone, but it looks much better than that!

  • jamal adam

I still wish that they had made the buttons onscreen rather than capacitive and if the HTC logo, which I assume is going to be the multitasking button is going to confuse people.

  • Paul Atreides

It does resemble the back of the iPhone 5. HTC worked a deal with Apple last year, it’s showing here. They went ahead and took some inspirations of Windows phone in the Sense UI. They’re at a point where they need to take these risk to remain relevant and attract some of those customers. They’re own little formula just didn’t work.

    • http://htcsource.com Nick Gray

The HTC/Apple deal explicitly spells out that HTC can use Apple’s software patents, but design patents are strictly off limits.

      • Paul Atreides

Thanks, hopefully this minor resemblance doesn’t send Apple into another hissy fit.

    • poop mcguinness

This looks like a progression of the evo lte, and the one x. There is no iphone there at all other then its a rectangle.

  • Rising33

This is what evolution is all about, change, morphing. So I think its good what HTC did with this phone which is software and hardware to a different level. U have to give them credit for being bold. Cant wait to see what it will push out as far as performance and everyday use.

  • swazedahustla

For you guys who want a glimpse of what Sense 5 will truly look like in action. I think some things might change but this is where HTC is taking sense. Pretty nice IMO.

    • Mike

No, this is a proprietary OS (infobar) made by DOCOMO Japan, HTC just happens to be making the hardware for them(they can use the extra cash, plus they used to be ODMs).

Infobar has NOTHING TO DO with HTC Sense or Android in general. Stop spreading lies!

      • omnom

It is HTC sense if you bothered to watch the video you would no.

        • tommydaniel

          No it’s not.

      • omnom

It is HTC sense if you bothered to watch the video, you would know.

  • mattcoz

The bezel does look considerably smaller than on the One X, so it should be much easier to handle.

  • Anibal

Looks like a mix between the iPhone 5 & the BlackBerry Z10

  • CTown

This looks really nice but where is the “multi-tasking” button? Isn’t that button mandatory or will Google allow HTC to forgo it for the old school way (which is to hold the home button)?

  • nandy

hope sense 5 lives up to the hype

  • roland

I hope HTC update the one x+ to sense 5 just got the one x+

  • Jimmy_Jo

Looks like a cross between the HTC EVO 4G LTE and the One X and that old dumbphone with the stereo speakers and landscape flip screen

  • romy134

thats alot of pinching..which I hate doing outward pinching I mean

Apple fanboys will cry “design theft”, but what do they know about design exactly? As an art director myself working in the design realm for nearly a decade, I can tell you this: the design is definitely following a trend that Apple has created recently with industrial design. Is it derivative, yes. But, no, it is not a rip-off by any means. They have gone industrial with the device itself and Windows metro tile with the the interface. This is definitely a huge shift in aesthetic for HTC. They have not followed anyone else’s path until now… I think this hurts HTC who once innovated some amazingly well designed handsets (save for the physical buttons) and had a unique skin with Sense. My verdict is… Meh, I’d rather wait for the rumored MotoNex hybrid.

    • Fuducky

I was kinda set on white but the grey metal frames the rectangular glass quite nicely.
I wonder how the glass meets the metal though. If they are flush and actually meet without a border of any type, that would be beautiful. If anyone pays attention to that kind of stuff, it’s the designers and engineers at HTC. Still amazed at all the work they did just to get the seamless glossy edge on the one x and the micro-drilled holes and think they deserve more recognition. Just compare the detailing on the Blackberry and you’ll realize what different worlds they come from. And you can say Apple is industrial but HTC is already beyond that. It’s already bringing back craftsmanship.

  • frmorrison

    I am tired of Sense.

  • Pravas

Wow this has to be the best looking phone on my list. I only wish this packs a wonderful camera.

  • Nathan D.

just a little while longer :-)

  • SGB101

I prefer the DNA the red version, shame that will never make it to the UK.

  • Techfiend86

Stop saying every phone that comes out look like / ripped off the Iphone…..i wish HTC would have followed the DNA design and software because the windows 7 phone look does not look appealing to me hopefully a walk through of this device can change my opinion

  • Me

IDK something about it I don’t like. Maybe one of those phones that looks better in person…..

  • toby98

htc one x came out before the iphony 5 dopes ,considering one has a 4 inch screen the htc one x has 4.7 …this more slender thats about it ,love iphony ppl saying everyone rips off apple

  • stringdidj

This reminds me of last years HTC one V as much as the new Blackberry, one thing is for sure the construction quality will be very high as always., maybe this phone will be one of several launched, I quite liked the earlier M7 droid like prototype, guess we have to wait a few days and see.

  • Paximos

Finally, a phone that actually looks nice. I hope HTC does not have to fight with BB Z10….I don’t know if BB has patented a 4 curvy corner phone though!!!

  • American traitor (Lance Armstrong)

    hideous asian crap phone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • gothicdude

Looks like the design has evolved pretty good. Is that a matte finish, those edges and the back of the phone?

  • Amorel

Bezel much?? Seriously, cut down the side bezel HTC! And what were they thinking? Blackberry/iPhone hybrid? Horrible! Bring on the SGS4 and Moto X!

  • aykutb

i’m an HTC supporter, using it for the last 4 years, this design sucks.

  • donger

If it came without Sense UI I would get this in a heartbeat.

Glossy screen is only displayed in black model (called the latest leak) but not in the silver models. But epic falied too! Look at the black border around the screen, does not have the shiny!

Cheapest JellyBean smartphone for lesser than $100 from Alcatel Lucent!

  • Lean6

    Wow…an HTC iPhone. Exciting.

  • KennyL

Silhouette is too much like an iPhone if you ask me.

  • Uriah

I really like the way the black HTC One looks. Even better are the features that will come with it, such as the quad-core processor and a 1080p display. Considering the fact that the only time I can keep up with my shows is while I’m on my way to and from work at DISH, I think it would be cool to watch on a HD screen. I use the DISH Anywhere app, which lets me stream my live and recorded shows anywhere I am, and I think it’ll work great with the HTC One.

  • Alex Wicks

If you don’t like sense you can always flash the device
