HTC One unboxing

I haven’t done an unboxing video in ages, but I was so excited to get my hands on the new HTC One that I broke out the camera and uploaded a quick clip. In the video below you will see the final retail packaging and contents, along with my initial impressions. Everyone is rushing to get up their reviews, but we are going to sit back and enjoy the phone for a couple weeks before posting our final thoughts. Let me know if you have any questions and I’ll do my best to answer them in a series of upcoming posts.

I think that taking your time to review the HTC One is the best way to really do it justice because I feel like some of the reviews are being rushed in an attempt to be the first published. The most important questions I have are about the Ultrapixel camera and if it delivers on it’s hype as well as Sense 5 and BlinkFeed.

    • Taylor Wimberly

I don’t get all the negative comments around the camera. Yes, HTC made some compromises in resolution, but it did so for a reason. Low-light performance is better than any other Android phone, and there are some cool tricks like Highlight videos that are just amazing.

      • jamal adam

That’s great to hear, I definitely like the low-light performance. I feel like the reviews/comments have been focusing on the fact that there is a lot of noise in the pictures when they are cropped to 100%, which I feel is to be expected on any camera. This true of the review by the Verge.

      • poosh2010

I loved the subtle jab aimed at the verge ;)

Thanks! And oddly enough, I just read Engadget’s review and they said, “we’re confident enough in its quality, in fact, to declare the One as our new go-to camera.” That’s something you don’t hear often.

Low light photos do look nice but I think the problem is the 4Megapixel ultra pixel, when you zoom in a a photo just a little or view on your large TV you may notice the pixelating, if HTC had just used a 5 or 6 Megapixel Ultra pixel then this would not have been a problem.

        • Burnd

A 4 megapixel camera can make beautiful pictures with a higher resolution than Full HD and thus make pictures with a higher resolution than your large TV. You won’t notice any pixelating unless you’re cropping pictures or zooming in. I’m very happy HTC tries to put an end to the megapixel myth.

I had the chance of getting my hands on one to try it out and I must say it’s one amazing device. I can’t wait to have my own.

Great unboxing! Can’t wait to unbox mine. Thanks Taylor!! :D

  • Nathan D.

Yes, please let us know how that awesome camera work , and everything else to, but the camera what I’m more excited over.

  • golfpedaler

I can’t wait to see the phone in action…

  • Bird Dog

Nice unboxing, but would have enjoyed it more if you had used a better camera. Solavei signal looks weak.

    • Auzo

I agree with this 100%. Nothing makes me stop watching a video faster than when focus is all over the place. It is just to distracting. The content seemed great, but about half way through I just couldn’t take it anymore.

  • Vance

I think you should have a made a Zoe of the unboxing :) can’t wait for this (although now it sounds like I’ll have no choice BUT to wait:( )

    • Taylor Wimberly

Ok I’ll see if I can make a Zoe film of the One if I’m lucky enough to get two phones.

  • donger

    Love this phone.

  • Chris

Still using the G2x……..and now I just really want this phone!!!! However, I thought there was a sd card slot on this phone and that it comes with 64gb of internal storage so?

    • uknowme

No SD support. Comes in 32 or 64g variants.

  • roland

    Nice nice nice

  • renyo

The one reason I’m pinning my hopes on HTC is the premium feel of the phone… Samsung does not give the same feel… I just hope other features (especially the camera) live up to the expectations…

  • E-man

Good looking phone. I’m looking forward to watching the forthcoming review videos.

  • Saul

Go Solavei! Been with them for a month now and love it!

  • Kamil

Could you please record some 720p/60 videos and upload it anywhere expect youtube, because it’s downscaling to 30 fps? I love smoothness of 60 fps and I would like to see how One is perform in this term :)

  • surethom

Nice looking phone, but I am worried that with only 4 meg Ultra pixel instead of 5 or 6 meg Ultra pixels, when you zoom in a little on the photos it will look pixelated???

  • Brad

I spend quite a bit of time in my car & use my phone extensively hands free. I’d love to know how the bluetooth/hands free operation is, including speech to text. i dictate and listen to a lot of texts and emails in the car, but only hands free.

    • Taylor Wimberly

HTC has a Car mode app that looks pretty cool. I’m looking forward to testing out the voice navigation with the front-facing speakers.

  • BigCiX

Give me the One’s design on the new Nexus with a 5 inch screen and I’ll be happy

  • imdiane

I love that you used the HTC One X+ to record your unboxing video. The auto focus feature is pretty quick! :D Can’t wait to read your full review.

Are YOU going to get the HTC One?

    • Taylor Wimberly

Yes, I plan to buy the unlocked developer edition.

  • Vitti

Really looking forward to your review and this phone. I need to decide between this and the GSIV. So far, I am leaning HTC.

    • Britt

just go with htc. the GS4 is a slight upgrade from GS3. HTC One is different from any other Android phone

  • Sean LeRoy (@seantleroy)

Interested on how the camera performs. I’ve heard somewhat sub-par, at least in initial reports.

  • yankeesusa

I would love to try this amazing phone on tmobile. My goodness the metal body on this phone just sets it apart. Htc has a good chance to get back into the game. Can’t wait for all the reviews, especially battery life, something my last 3 htc phones have been horrible at.

  • DroidPower

I’d like to know about the battery life, how the camera and video shooting works out, and the overall experience with Zoe. Thanks!

    • DroidPower

oh, and um… maybe a giveaway after the review (if HTC is cool with it)?

  • irishrally

Very nice unboxing video. You have a soothing voice. If you’re ever in SF maybe you could stop by and read me a bedtime story.

If all those accessories are released soon after release that could be a big deciding factor over the competitors. Nexus One accessories was a huge plus for me.

  • Max.Steel

More reasons why HTC should be allowed to make another Nexus. This phone is just so stunning and beautiful.

  • kzlife

Please use manual zooming on your camera next time! Auto focus is just too annoying for your viewers! :)

  • yvhweh

Really I just want to know, will YHE software, hardware, last long enough.

  • undertaken316

This is an even better unboxing and video review also. You should take a look at see for yourself
