Fresh Meat: 10 new Android apps worth checking out

New apps need lovin’ too, right? Every day there are thousands of new entries on the Google Play store, but many go unnoticed and never receive the attention they deserve. We have shown in the past that this community can discover great apps and launch them to new heights, so we’re bringing back our weekly column Fresh Meat that highlights new apps with less than 100k installs. Browse our new Android app picks below and let us know which ones you enjoy.

InCall Recorder

Pitch: High Quality MP3 Calls & Voice recorder in one! InCall Recorder Allows full control of Recorded Calls. You can choose when to start recording and saving battery power and reduce size of the audio file. There is also a choice of automatically recording all conversations interactions unattended. Quick start tape recorder creating high-quality audio.

Pitch: Burner provides disposable phone numbers at the push of a button. Make calls and send texts from temporary phone numbers. Receive calls, texts and voicemails on your Burner disposable phone numbers. Find a number in any area code. Free to download and comes with one free Burner.

Pitch: Skydeck is a new way to meet people who like taking and sharing photos. From Skydeck you can see everyone – and the view is great. Take a photo. Choose a filter. Post it to Skydeck. Browse photos from people near you or anywhere in the world. Message, chat, and swap pictures privately. Meet new friends, date, and more, all for free!

Pitch: The best nights out can be spontaneous. Wouldn’t it be great if drinks after work could turn into an awesome night at a concert? But tickets probably sold out weeks ago, right? Wait, you need the Thrillcall app. Thrillcall is a live music discovery app that enables you to search for, discover and purchase concert tickets and exclusive offers in a few clicks.

Pitch: The WeVideo Video Editor helps you capture memories and moments wherever they happen, and turn them into amazing videos to share with others, across your favorite social networks. Launch the WeVideo Android app and record videos to the phone. Trim video clips, tag videos and upload to the cloud. Arrange clips, adjust track volume, and stylize with any one of the unique WeVideo themes, with built-in music, filters, transitions and titles.

Pitch: Are you using your smart phone or tablet in the late evening? Twilight may be a solution for you! Recent research suggests that exposure to blue light before sleep may distort your natural (circadian) rhythm and cause inability to fall asleep. The Twilight app makes your device screen adapt to the time of the day. It filters the blue spectrum on your phone or tablet after sunset and protects your eyes with a soft and pleasant red filter. The filter intensity is smoothly adjusted to the sun cycle based on your local sunset and sunrise times.

Pitch: The Swizzle Drink Recipes app can help anyone make cocktails and mix drinks like a bartender or mixologist. Store your ingredients inventory in My Cabinet, clone and modify recipes to your personal taste and save, and get non alcoholic and virgin drink recipes.

Pitch: Your calendar, always at your fingertips. A new home for your appointments and events, right in your statusbar – available any time. The Status Agenda App uses your Google Calendar so there is nothing to set up.

Pitch: Fetch is a personal search companion that brings apps and games to you! Unlike simple search tools, Fetch is smart enough to seek out apps and games based on your personal tastes. Fetch can pinpoint an app’s consistent, fundamental traits and gives you the power to link them together however you want to find exactly what you’re looking for. When you find something you love, Fetch will work non-stop to find the best apps for you, every day!

Pitch: Twist alerts your friends, family or colleagues when you are almost there and if you are running late. Whether you are driving, walking or taking public transit, Twist accurately calculates your arrival time to a specified destination and privately shares your ETA with only those that you choose.

How is Twist different than Glympse?

Twilight is interesting. I have a little program at home on my PC called F.lux that performs a similar function.

    • NasLAU

I wondered the same thing about Twist. With Glimpse, people you notify don’t need to download the app. That’s my favorite feature. I wonder if Twist has this.

There is an android app for Flux. Works great on my tablet and phone.

Twilight is kind of cool. Taylor I’d also recommend an app called My Purchases. It does what a lot of people want. It gives you a list of the apps you purchased in Google Play. There is a free ad supported version and a paid version. So far I haven’t had any major issues with it. The only thing I noticed is it doesn’t go back to some of my original purchases from about 3 years ago. It also links to the app if you want to redownload it.

You beat me to the punch. I was gonna say something similar about Twilight.

Burner sounds cool if your michael weston(any fans of that show). But seriously sounds pretty neat.I the sound of swizzle drinks recipe I mean who do esnt want to be known for making good drinks.fetch seems neat too. Almost reminds me app brain but it also sunds more like pandora but for apps

“Pandora for apps” is probably the best, most concise way to explain Fetch. A not-as-concise way would be: Fetch allows you to search for keywords, specific traits, and apps similar to the ones you already have. Then you can add them to your personalized feed which gets updated when there are new matching results. Lots of new features are in the pipeline, too! Try it out and let us know what you think!

I think WeVideo will be the most downloaded out of this group and has the most potential. There seems to be a lack of great video editing apps on Android.

Twilight has sparked my curiosity… now its time for the play store!

  • Jorge Eslava

I find Twilight very interesting. I can’t wait to see if it works.

PushBullet makes it easy to instantly push files, links, notes, lists, reminders, addresses, and more to your and your friends Android phones and tablets, right into their notification shades.
Why is PushBullet so useful? How is it different from, say, Dropbox for files?
