HTC One with Nexus User Experience hits Play Store on June 26th for $599

Rumors suggested that we might see an HTC One with the Nexus user experience, and today Google’s Sundar Pichai confirmed the device will hit the Play Store on June 26th for $599. HTC’s “Google Edition” device will land the same day as the previously announced Samsung Galaxy S4 “Google Edition”, which will retail for $649.

A representative from HTC said, “A special edition of the new HTC One running stock Android will be exclusively available through the Google Play store in the United States starting on June 26th.  This edition pairs the all-metal unibody design, low-light capabilities of the UltraPixel camera and dual front-facing stereo speakers of the new HTC One with the stock version of the latest Android software, Jelly Bean 4.2.2.”

According to HTC’s site, the HTC One with Nexus user experience will be exactly like the SIM unlocked and Developer Edition. That device featured the same hardware as AT&T’s version, but with slightly altered software. That means the HTC One with Nexus experience will operate on all of AT&T’s networks, but it will be limited T-Mobile LTE and HSPA+ on the 1900 MHz band.

Sundar Pichai also stated that even though they are releasing several “Google Edition” models of popular Android smartphones, the Nexus brand will continue to live on. We still don’t know which company will produce the next Nexus, but our audience really wants to see Google to return to HTC.

It’s so lovely that I dumped Verizon last June 2012. It’s been a wonderful run on tmobile with great products. Now the Galaxy S4 Google edition as well as the Htc One Google Edition. What more choices can anyone ask for. The Galaxy Note 3 around the corner nothing will ever beat that on Tmobile.

      • K Star

Niqqa please. You didn’t dump Verizon, you couldn’t afford Verizon. Nothing will ever beat the Galaxy Note 3? You don’t even know what it does. Even if it is the most awesome phone ever when it comes out, it’s going to be upstaged within 1-3 months (or less). What about the Note 4? You’re actually trying so hard to troll now that you are going out of your way to look like a moronic ass.
You can’t afford any of these things anyway, shelter boy. Go back to fantasy land with your 1982 CRT TV and your little room…”high roller” -smh-

  • tmoore4075

That’s pretty awesome. I think that’s better than the GS4 Nexus version. Too much money for me but some people will like that.

  • Dima

If i will buy now a regular HTC One,
will i be able to root and port the Nexus ROM on it?
i just got tired of my Nexus one….

    • swazedahustla

You will but you will lose all the good camera quality in HTC sense, and they say beats audio included but I doubt there will be source released for it so its a gamble. Too much of a loss going from sense to stock. All the good features of the phone gone, not for me.

      • Tetracycloide

So all the good features are enabled in software? Can’t you just download other software to replicate those features?

      • masterpfa

A nandroid backup will also mean you could revert back to stock-ish or look for a Sense based custome ROM

The community is always ;looking at ways of porting features between phones so BEATS may be available and maybe a wok around for some of the camera features too.

    • Nate B.

Of course. Just do some research and at your own risk. If it’s Android you most likely is where you want to go. But they’re only nightly builds. Meaning far from stable.

  • Nate B.

Unless Key Lime Pie is going to have some really useful and feature packed software I wouldn’t do it. You can simply root and go back whenever you want. But Stock Android contains nothing worthy to compliment that hardware. I can careless about the branding of “Beats” but those front facing speakers won’t be the same. That camera definitely won’t be the same as far as quality. No IR Blaster. And the features alone that the camera could do. Your left with a very attractive “nexus like” phone but stripped down at what made the phone from the beginning. It would be smarter to save money and get an actual Nexus or root. Same goes for the Galaxy S4 Edition. It’s all software based. You won’t get the same quality features. Key Lime Pie must come with some force. Because today’s custom versions of android are useful. So maybe this is good in the long run? But what will you say when the N5 comes out later this year? I just think people forget your phone won’t be the same or even better actually just because the build and camera specs are higher. Basically all you really benefit off of right NOW will be the screen and physical build of the phone. The S4 version is pretty much the same with additional removable battery and memory. I’m going to consider these phones future proof. That’s the only thing I can be optimistic about when it comes to this. Otherwise Google could’ve done this a long time ago.

    • SGB101

I don’t care for the beats tbh but the camera would be a big miss, I imagine the ir blaster drivers will be released as they are also on the s4,and will be on every device from here on including the next nexus. It’s a given.

I’m not liking TW, especially on the s4 variant, but I’ve always liked sense, and the latest seems much lighter, but with so big additions (conflicting of words there) so I’d still opt for the sense over stock even if buying out right. Shame about the sealed battery tho, that is the single thing that stops me even being a touch jealous.

I know u could use a mofie, but I wouldn’t even put a case on the one, never mind a mofie.

    • NamelessTed

Why would the camera quality be worse? They said it still has the same UltraPixel sensor in there. Am I missing something?

      • swazedahustla

Same hardare, but its the HTC Sense software that gives you all the cool features and functionality of the camera that makes it great. WIth stock you aren’t getting any of that because that is HTC’s source and they aren’t ever releasing that to the public.

        • swazedahustla

The bigger implication comes with the camera. Remember that the HTC One technically only shoots at 4 megapixels, though those pixels do let in more light. But you’ll be losing the major software features that make up HTC One experience. That means no Zoes. No Video Highlights. No animated gallery.

In addition, the power button-mounted IR blaster will be disabled.

        • Tetracycloide

What’s stopping a third party from releasing software with the same features?

      • Nate B.

This is the mistake people make all the time. They assume everything stays but you get stock. Almost everything a phone can do is software related. The rest is just pretty to look at. Hardware. Now I read that beats audio would stay but you won’t have to deal with the icon on the top saying it’s in play when listening to audio. I assume the camera on the S4 and One edition might be tweaked to “possibly” get decent photos. I won’t be surprised if they do, but those minor tweaks alone tell me these phones might get delayed updates regardless of it being sold through the play store. I think it will be safe to say it’s not truly pure if it’s not lacked a Nexus. But I could be wrong. We will know when the phone is peoples hands and when we will ultimately know when key lime pie is released to consumers. Until then, I’ll enjoy my black HTC One as is. I’ll buy a Nexus if they stop cutting corners on the combination of top class specs, hardware, and software. I personally feel Google does that.

        • Nate B.

        • masterpfa

          Nexus for me every time
But I welcome the these “Google Experience” [phones.

    • magicmike

Why would there be no ir blaster? Why would the camera quality not be the same? Why would beats be gone? Isn’t this “nexus” edition the exact same as the htc one minus the os? I don’t get it.

      • uknowme

Sense makes that all possible. Vanilla or stock has none of those options.

    • aranea

I like where google is going with the nexus experience trend however companies should be careful to add their unique features in there somewhere, maybe release them as a standalone app that can be installed only on that model of the phone or something. Or else it doesn’t make much sens to pay more than nexus 4 and get a phone missing some of the features that make it unique.

All that said I prefer stock android over most of the skins and that’s why I’m using nexus 4.

    • masterpfa

      Well said Nate

  • Max.Steel

Man, I wish I had $600 laying around. I would so get this phone.

  • Co1e

I wont be picking this thing up at the moment, but I’m liking this trend. Stock FTW.

    • Hom0ncruse

final nail in the coffin for HTC One

  • jamal adam

The One to rule them all. Now, does this mean that the drivers for both the ultrapixel camera and boomsound work like they would on the the Sense version?

    • swazedahustla

Nope, you will get a different quality from the camera and lose some of HTC’s features that they added like Zoe. They said it comes with beats audio, but I doubt they release source for it so not sure what kind of impact that will have on things.

  • alexanderharri3

This is the final culmination of the “Multiple Nexus manufacture” rumors of yore. Nexus experience devices let spotlight phones get the stock experience everyone talks about (non-Verizon) without any extra effort in designing a new phone for stock Android.

    It’s great to have options.

  • hachigoro

What do you mean by “but it will be limited T-Mobile LTE and HSPA+ on the 1900 MHz band.” Will it work fine with TMobile? Really like HTC phones :)

  • Matthew

Does anyone know if this will be coming to the rest of the world? I would love this phone!!!

  • Dr.Carpy

I will be looking into this as well as the developer edition. This phone is by, an masterpiece. No phone on the market looks or feels like the HTC One. My only hope is that HTC is smart, they will allow for the Beats, Blinkfeed and camera software to be sideloaded to this phone. HTC wins by showing their best in house features, with the best that Google has to offer. Either way, I hope HTC finds success, and lookout for the Google Xperia….I called it first!

  • snowbdr89

Hopefully they address the home an return buttons

  • joogleme16

Awesome! I really loved the HTC One, as a device. Being a Nexus user I stay committed to the line but sometimes I feel the phones come out slightly behind the rest when it come to some of the internals like processors, cameras, and radios. The HTC One was just one of those phones that you wished was senseless, and now it is! :-) it’s making me second think my next phone choice with the S4 coming out Nexified too!

  • drejohnson

    Sweet Baby Jesus!!!

  • irishrally

Wait what? Is the Google edition S4 only tmo lte and 1900 too?

  • donger

Good news. but it is limited on 1900mhz band on Tmobile is the deal breaker for me.

  • RoyalJoker

I really love the HTC one I think its the most beautiful awesome device ever made but one thing really grinds my gears. I’m a nexus 4 user and I use my phone more then most people. I find myself charging my phone 2-3 times a day and it has a even bigger battery then the HTC one. Battery may not be a issue to some but to me a hardcore user it is. I soooooo want this phone but that’s a deal breaker. I just hope the nexus 5 has front facing speakers and a huge battery to at least get me through the day or any phone for that matter. I don’t see why front facing speakers aren’t the norm it just doesn’t make sense you hold your phone so the screen is towards you not the other way around!

    • Raptor

Holly [email protected]#%& …you are the first not a retard and not a salesman pumper here.

    • Billy_B

No it isn’t. The HTC One battery is 2300mah. The Nexus 4 is 2100mah.

  • Raptor

    Make it sooner
