“moto x” to launch August 1st?

Goodbye Motorola. If a pitch for what we believe to be is an upcoming ad campaign on Behance.net is real, then something huge is going on at Motorola.

The pictures, on B.A. Bäkken’s Behance page, an online design portfolio page for designers to showcase their work, say it all. Labeled as, “Pitch work,” for Motorola, the images tell an interesting story of Motorola going away while they work on something drastic; “New Ideas. New Technologies.” The next big thing.

We're not good at goodbyes. No one is. They're hard. And sad. But the time has come. After nearly a century of innovation, we must say farewell. Farewell to the first handheld cell phone. To the Razr. To the game snake. Farewell to the Motorola that has shaped today.

It's time to start building tomorrow. Change is afoot. New faces. New ideas. New technologies. The Motorola that returns will not be the company you once knew. But we have some work to do. So until we're ready, we're going away. No new ads or tweets. No site updates. Just silence until we begin the next chapter.

Until we meet again, goodbye Moto.Ad pitch to MotorolaBehance.net

It’s hard to tell exactly what this all means, but the overall message is certainly intentional. Meaning Motorola must sent out a call for mockups fitting the slogan, “Goodbye Moto.”

Several of the images feature the date 8.1.13, which could be a placeholder, but previous moto x rumors suggested the device would launch in August.

Is Motorola leaving for awhile to come back rebranded? Will Google completely absorb the company? Are they simply going dark until they can come up with a product that will really, truly, finally wow us all? Stay tuned as we dig for more, and try to find out what’s going on at Motorola.

So, after months of speculations and rumors all we know is that Motorola is playing the waiting game. You know what I must be caught in the hype as I cannot wait!

    Goodbye Moto.

    • Andre

I know right, LOL – I literally CAN NOT WAIT!!!!!! X phone here we come!!

      Goodbye Moto.

    • breckdroid

Likewise! I’m stoked to see what’s next. Luckily my current contract has afforded me the time to wait and consider all the new phones, but this Motorola and Google merger/rebirth has me by far the most intrigued.

      Later Moto!

With Google at the helm and the “X” Phone being the first product out of this merger, it has to be unique and in some way revolutionary, if no other reason than to justify to Google’s investors that Motorola Mobility was worth the $12B that it paid for them and Motorola rebooting the old Nokia Texas facility which will be unique itself to have phones that if not made in the US, will at least have the designation of being assembled in the US.

Not sure what’s more exciting, the Nexus 5 in late fall with a Snapdragon 800 CPU or the “X” with these unique features of interacting with the phone.

      Patents are the reason….

I am interested to see what moto unveils. I feel like this may be their “last shot” to really wow everyone and get people back on board with their devices. No matter the rumors, hopefully the moto x can live up to the hype unlike previous moto devices.

      I agree

    Me not caring June 24th?

Doesn’t seem likely that we will see this specific ad campaign. Why would an ad company jump the gun and reveal a customer’s new campaign before the customer begins the campaign?

Since these ads are listed as a pitch, it is likely that they either didn’t get the account or they are just made it up from scratch to show potential customers how they can really shake things up. If it is that they didn’t get the account, it is difficult to say whether Motorola was just looking for any ideas on image change / re-branding or were more specific with the “we are going away for a while” theme.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Just hope it doesn’t significantly delay availability of the “X”

    • NotRelevant

Who’s to say that this isn’t part of the campaign? If they show it as “only a pitch” then it makes it seem more interesting (IMO) because you don’t know how authentic it is.

      Just a thought.

I’m seeing this like it is a rebirth. Google acquires Moto and get’s rid of everything in the pipeline. Well, that pipeline has finally seen it’s end and this is the new Moto under Google.

  • ihatefanboys

Hopefully “goodbye MOTO” means goodbye to that horrible MOTO phrasing on their devices. I hated Motoblur, moto-whatever, would have hated the Google phone to be called MOTO-X…. I hope thats what this means.

  • Dr.Carpy

This campaign seems a little heavy handed. Just rebrand, sans drama. However, If they use this build up to a flagship device to combat the likes of the HTC 1′s, Xperia Z’s and S4′s of the mobile world. However, if they bring out a mid tier phone with last year’s specs, then they should/will stay dead.

    and the come back

is that the moto x on the pics??

    • Bobby

No, that’s the Droid RAZR M on Verizon before it’s jellybean update.

  • tjm

I hope that Motorola stays true to their roots in hardware. They were never strong with software but they had some of the most robust receivers. This is something people don’t appreciate today. Receiver sensitivity let’s you get phone calls when others can’t even on the same network. WiFi works better and battery life is longer.

goodbye moto… to their locked bootloader…

Best Ad campaign ever! No spam, no hype, no nothing. Ahhhhh…. If only everybody else advertised this way!

  • Nathan D.

Only have to wait like a month and a half until that date. Until then, let the hype continue!

  • Kuyam

Did anyone else notice how the numbers in the days/hour remaining can make up “1337″ :).

  • donger

    So exciting.

  • Jovi

They need to say goodbye to the future to say hello moto.
