Does Moto X ad suggest July 11 product announcement?

While we’ve all seen the Moto X ad that ran this week in the New York Times, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal and Washington Post, an observant reader with a keen eye for detail has noted that the couple jumping into the water may hold the key to when the Motorola Moto X will be announced. The theory is that the X and I shapes of the man and woman jumping off the doc represent Roman numerals.

XI + August launch = July 11 announcement?

This theory is reinforced by the fact that Leo Laporte was invited to a small press event at Motorola by Guy Kawasaki on July 10 and 11. Since most rumors point to the Moto X launching sometime in August, a July 11 product announcement isn’t inconceivable. The evidence appears to be in place, but it could be that people are simply imposing their ideas on something that’s not really there.

What’s your take on the July 11 Moto X product announcement theory? Do you think the Motorola ad really hid the date in plain sight?

Or it could be the Moto X1… Just saying…

I agree, most likely a X1. July 11 seems like a bit of stretch to get from the image. But guess we will find out soon enough!

      • zerosix

        +1 for X1.
But my first thought was 10.1.2013.

      I don’t know…maybe I’m looking into it too much…

The girl is definitely making a ‘T’ with her hands as in ‘Time Out’. and one leg is bent to make a ‘P’ shape. so a ‘T’hursday ‘P’ress release (July 11) makes perfect sense.

They are jumping into Flathead Lake, MT – is the phone is water-proof.

Is this a sink or swim product for Motorola??

not using the canoe – are they up [email protected]#$ creek without a paddle?

Either way, this now makes the adds fun as we get to look for hidden messages. Could be a great way to more people to pay attention to their commercials.

I hope for a July 10th announcement and it going on sale on the next day on the 11th. But that’s wishful thinking and assuming it truly is an awesome phone. Otherwise I don’t care when it gets sold. But I’m really hoping for something special!!

  • redarmynews

“X-I” could easily be “10-1″ or October 1st…

  • redarmynews

i’ve played with the phone, i’ve held it in my hands. believe me when I say it’s lovely, but it’s NOT what everyone made it out to be. it’s not going to be bigger, faster, stronger…it’s going to be SMARTER.

Well, I guess Daft Punk has some lyrics to rewrite, then.

    • mattcoz

Who is everyone? All the leaks have pointed to it being a mid-range device spec-wise.

      • redarmynews

I shouldn’t have said “everyone”. I was referring to all the people that still think you’re going to be able to customize what processor, ram, think it’s going to have a 4000 mah battery, etc…

The people who have thought that have no clue how intricately software on Android devices is build to work with specific pieces of hardware.

  • donger

    Hopefully it’s true.

  • redarmynews

the motorola rep that i talked to wouldn’t give me a date but just said “sometime in the fall”. so, i still contend that

    X-I = 10-1 = OCT. 1ST

hopefully i’m wrong though, the sooner the better!
