Rumor: Moto X to go on sale same day as August 1 reveal?

Smartphone announcements are always exciting, but the inevitable wait period between unveiling and retail launch is the worst. With the Chromecast, Google did away with the wait period. The day Chromecast was announced, it went on sale. Not just online, but in stores as well. Motorola could be doing the same thing with the Moto X.

We know at this point that the Moto X will be revealed this Thursday, August 1. Motorola is keen on keeping the hype train rolling, going as far as posting a picture on the company Twitter account this morning that simply says, “Moto X, August 1, 2013,” and using it as the official Twitter background. So again, we know, without a shadow of a doubt, that August 1 will be the day we get to finally see the Moto X revealed. But will we be able to purchase it that day?

We’ve heard a rumor today that makes us think we will indeed be able to purchase the Moto X on the same day it’s announced. According to the rumor, starting today, certain carriers will start receiving Moto X shipments to be sold on August 1. Theoretically, the carriers that will receive Moto X shipments will get them in black and white color combinations, with the customized versions made available online the same day.

We have no idea which carriers would receive shipments; multiple Moto X release dates have been rumored in the past and could be tied to short exclusivity deals. We only know that they should be arriving any time now. If this rumor turns out to be true, there’s a good chance someone, somewhere, will leak something very soon. Either way, we’ll know more in just three days. What do you think about Motorola possibly selling the Moto X the same day it’s announced?

Probably Taylor on Google plus. He’s been all over this thing lately.

Does anyone know just how good the processor is yet? What are people saying about the new Droid’s with the same processor?

I was kind of dissapointed that it isn’t going to have the snapdragon 800, but I guess they’re more worried about price point.

From the smiles on Larry Page and Eric Schmidt faces I think this could be a winner.
Google usually match software to hardware and as a result have phones that perform well such as (IMO) the Galaxy Nexus especially now after the 4.3 update.

In a sense it’s like a fast car do we need to provide a V8 engine muscle car for everyone to drive.

I personally think the Moto-X will be fine and more than capable

Hope this is true, but also hope they have the play store ready to handle all the traffic. Hopefully google learned from the nexus 4 and beefed up not only the supply for launch but also their site to handle everything smoothly

Verizon will start selling it long after it becomes available everywhere else.

    • donger

Verizon’s behind on these kind of things.

I think that this would be a smart move by Motorola and Google because I for one hate waiting for devices to be released weeks and months after they are announced. Once again, if this rumor is true, it shows that Moto means business.

If they get it off the ground the same day, i’m sold.

But my contract isn’t up until October! If this is true, do I wait or just go ahead and order one while I can? Hmm…

I hope we find out about this thing soon. I’m holding off ordering my HTC One in case there are more surprises with the Moto X

    • RATMdrumer

I’ve been following the Moto X all year and I finally gave in to the HTC One a little over two weeks ago because of the deal at Best Buy. So far, so good, but I hope I don’t regret it on Thursday!

Hope they will release it in europe soon after launch as well :-)

This is already my phone. I lost my Nexus 4 two weeks ago at the theme park.

I’m using a dumbphone (gave away my Nexus S when I bought the 4 this year), and it’s really bad…but I’m gonna wait for this phone. I don’t know why, but I expected nothing less than this from Moto and Google. This will be amazing. The only question is whether I go to pick it up same day at Best Buy, or customize it to my liking. If they have cheap one day shipping, I might customize. Otherwise the wait might be unbearable.

    Please, just come to Sprint.

  • Kelvyn Soler

Will it be available for metro pcs or boost mobile?

    • redraider133

Well it is coming to sprint and tmo so maybe those variants will work for boost/metro
