Rumor: Move over Galaxy S, Samsung to launch Galaxy F series of premium devices

Samsung galaxy s 4 design generic

Samsung has taken the world by storm with its Galaxy line of products. From the Galaxy S, to the Galaxy Note, Samsung is a world leader in smartphones. But they still can’t quite seem to get the whole quality materials thing down. With every new Galaxy S and Note release, there’s a rumor that Samsung is switching to a new premium design. And every time, Samsung introduces yet another slimy plastic device. Well, don’t get your hopes up for a premium aluminum Galaxy S 5 anytime soon, but the Galaxy F might be just what you’re looking for.

Citing industry sources, is saying that early next year, Samsung will be introducing a new series of devices to their Galaxy line of products. Seated below the Note in size, and above the Galaxy S in quality, the Samsung Galaxy F will be Samsung’s answer to those of us who have been begging the company to lose the shiny plastic trim.

The Galaxy F will reportedly feature a new, sleek, metal design, along with top-of-the-line internals. This move would still keep the Note firmly positioned where it’s been sitting since its arrival, as an interesting yet popular niche device, but would push Galaxy S devices into a more consumer friendly position. A Galaxy F will also give Samsung three flagship devices that can be spread out throughout the year to better compete with the likes of LG, HTC, Sony and Apple.

For right now this is all still a rumor; one we’d particularly like to see come true. I’ve been using a Galaxy S 4 for some time now, and as much as I like the device, it’s hard not to be envious of HTC One and iPhone 5 users. I know a lot of you don’t agree and actually like the plastic housing and all the perks that come along with it (removable battery), but there is a market for more premium Samsung devices. All Samsung needs to do is release one.

just before I looked at the bank draft which said $5940, I didnt believe that my father in law could actually erning money parttime at there computar.. there uncles cousin had bean doing this 4 only about 11 months and at present paid for the mortgage on there condo and bourt a new Car. these details……..

    • donny

just as Samuel responded I didnt even know that a stay at home mom able to make $5940 in 1 month on the internet. try this website

  • erikiksaz

I don’t care if the exterior of the phone is made of 14 carat gold, it’s the turd-looking skin that is touchwiz that ruins the whole experience of samsung devices.

For god sakes, hurry the hell up and copy iOS again, 2007-themed touchwiz needs to go.

    • Kyle

Just root and flash a different rom then.

    • SGB101

As a note2 user running cm, I’m with you.

    • Nate B.

I personally agree. Would I like a premium build? Yes. But a clean sexy design. Not just a metal body and call it premium. But I’m fine with Sammy’s current build. It’s their skin that clutters it. It does have some beat tricks and the camera is always on point. But the outdated, oversized icons, and terrible color clashes, and bloated all together is what makes me ugh. They just need to modernize it.

      • Zach

No, you fix it. Just flash a new rom. Its one of the perks of android, its totally open ended and you can put any version of it on there that you want including custom ones made by developers that are way better then the factory ones. the possibilities are endless. If you dont know how just google custom roms on android. It will change your life, you wont want iOS any more.

    • DroidSamurai

      >> For god sakes, hurry the hell up and copy iOS again, 2007-themed touchwiz needs to go.

When iOS is busy copying Android and Windows Phone, why the heck would you want Samsung to copy from iOS instead? Just go back to the root and copy from Android itself!

    • Jimmy_Jo

Samsung should turn TouchWiz into a UI that mimics their great looking Samsung Apps. i don’t use the apps themselves much at all because they’re redundant for my use, but they look great!

    • alex

How can TouchWiz ruins a “Samsung experience” when is TouchWiz the experience?
A Note 3 with Stock Android 4.4 must be really boring.

    • kazahani

Use Nova Launcher or something similar. I use it on my GS4 and don’t even notice TouchWiz. I don’t understand the big scuttlebutt about customer UIs when you can download a launcher from Google Play that is pretty much stock.

      • kazahani

        *custom UIs.

      • Damien

Completely agree, not sure why people don’t do this, I love sammy roms as they have so many features that I instantly miss whenever I try a CM rom or Pacman etc. I just install Nova Launcher and an icon pack and then I have the best of both worlds. I prefer the colour scheme of sammy roms anyway, more blacks than AOSP. AOSP is all white backgrounds and I don’t like that. AOSP is looking old now anyway, time for an update…

    • NeoJesus

iphone OS looks like a cluttered POS. The drop down notification shade is semi transparent and looks like shit when you have a ton of icons in the background.

  • Steve Horton

If “premium” means that I can’t have a removable battery, I’ll stay with the Galaxy S series. The plastic material has never been an issue and iPhone users are envious when I quickly change out my battery. I’m not sure what the all the “premium” features would be besides higher quality parts inside the phone, but I’ve never had any problems with my Galaxy S devices. Curious what these premium phones would bring to the table.

    • Cory

Removable batteries are not need moron. If you think you need one you have a seriously low IQ. Removable batteries are stupid and I hate them. The suck. I prefer my battery being built in like on my Nexus 7 and HTC One. It is better. You are a daft moron.

      • SGB101

        I need a removable battery.

The note2 was the first smart phone to last me A whole day. That was 11 months ago though, now It doest, well it does as I bought a fresh battery, and have the old one on backup for emergency.

Just because you don’t need a replaceable battery, doesn’t make him, or anyone else, a moron, it just makes you an ignorant moron!

        • Richi

Yep ..note 2 user aswell . After 12 months my battery died too . But $12 delivered new from hong kong .. thanks samsung !

          • Human

Good thing they don’t decent batteries or else they’d cost $30 to replace. haha

        • philnolan3d

My RAZR Maxx lasts a day and a half if I don’t play Ingress on it. That said I can see the benefits of a replaceable battery for the times when I do play Ingress, which is a lot.

      • Tapewormlatvia

And how did you reach the conclusion that removable batteries suck, and people who have them are morons? Tell me just one good reason why I shouldn’t have a phone with a removable battery.
I can tell you why people should have them.

Imagine that you’re going away. I don’t know. Hiking in the mountains somewhere for a couple of days without the possibility to charge your phone. Would you rather have a phone that has to be set in some super extra battery saving mode the whole time, with most of the things disabled, in order for it to last those days (which then just makes it a brick in your pocket). OR would you rather have some three (or whatever) charged batteries with you. That way you don’t have to disable anything. Do what you want with your phone, and it will still last you the whole trip/hike and even more if you want.

Of course, sure, you can buy some external battery box thing that you can use to charge your phone when the battery is empty. But swapping batteries makes 0% go to 100% a lot faster.

I’m sure there are many reasons why people prefer built in batteries, and I don’t argue with them.
        I just know one thing.

Think before you open your mouth, Cory, you little piece of shit.

        • Tim

Nobody said you have to wait until empty to use a portable battery charger. It’s really not an inconvenience. People who have phones with removable batteries have convinced themselves that removable batteries are the greatest thing since sliced bread. In reality, the portable battery chargers are small, compact, and easy to keep in a pocket. And then you get to use a much better built phone. :-)

          • John

Rather than carry round a bulky “portable” charger I’d sooner have in my pocket a smaller, lower weight battery and have a phone that is fully charged after the 30 secs it takes to swap over and reboot. No contest whatsoever.

        • philnolan3d

The only down side that I can see is that the back can fall off if you drop the phone. That’s not really a big deal though.

          • SGB101

That’s a pro, as if it’s a sealed unit, you can replace it as easily if cracked.

I’d much rather it popped off than crack.

      • NeoJesus

The next time you are at:

        - an airport
        - a high school or college cafeteria
        - the girl’s restroom at Disney World

Pay attention to all the people hording the outlets. These are usually iphone people because they constantly need to charge their phones.

Seriously, at Disney World, teenage girls would sit on the floor in the restrooms waiting for their phones to charge. First of all, that’s disgusting! Second of all, your parents paid thousands for you to come here and you spend most of your time in the bathroom charging up your iphone.

Removable batteries are a must have for me. Especially when I’m going on vacation.

        • Me

That brings up another issue although way off topic…….why are tourists fucking retarded?!?! Its like they come to Orlando and they lose their brain.

    • jamal adam

If this is true, that means that we can all have our cake and eat it too. Those of us that want a premium feel can have the Galaxy F series, those that want the plastic and ability for a removable battery can continue using the Galaxy S series and those that want something larger will go with the Note series. This way no one complains about this or that and we can have what we want.

Says the Samsung fanboy who talks like he’s 7. At least the Apple fanboys are usually more eloquent with their words… (And no, I’m not an Apple fanboy. I love Android and am currently using a Galaxy Nexus with CM.)

      Your welcome.

  • Alexander drzfr3shboialex

A galaxy F inspired nexus sounds nice. I’d still like to see a Sony nexus or another HTC one.

  • Cory

Galaxy F sounds like a terrible name

    • Victor

I completely agree. How to market against it, “Samsung’s Galaxy F, is an F”. “It’s called F for a reason”. How about Samsung Galaxy X, or Z hell, even P might work.

      • kazahani

I vote for Samsung Galaxy O. When I’m talking about it I could be all like “Galaxy OOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”

    • NeoJesus

F is a bad choice for a name.

F = the lowest grade you can get in school
      F = Fail, Galaxy Fail?
      F = Fuck, Galaxy Fuck?

Those marketing people need to rethink this one. I think they didn’t choose Galaxy X because it sounds too close to S when spoken, but who cares, it would look way cooler as a logo.

Galaxy Z even might not work tho, people will say Samsung copied Sony.

      Maybe, Galaxy Sx

      Sx = as in SEXY!

  • pjamies

If you want to upgrade the existing S series to a better/nicer body then do it, but by adding another line of phones in to the puzzle is a waste, and will be confusing to most users.

    • CTown

Seriously, why make a whole new line? Especially considering the HTC One has the same internals as the US GS4 while being cheaper and having a better screen.

    • NeoJesus

      This is probably why:

  • Bozzifed

Absolutely agree.. Samsung needs to take the absolute best, premium materials, top of the line hardware and make the F-line blow everyone’s socks off..

I have HTC One and I’m absolutely blown away.. I would look into Samsung if they released the beautiful phone.. as it is right now I don’t like Galaxy S series from the design standpoint and design is very important to me as well.

I don’t mind paying $800-$850 for a phone unlocked off contract if it’s stunning piece of hardware and I’m sure there’s a lot of people out there who would do the same, especially the iPhone owners who want to dump Apple but iPhone still looks nice design wise (hardware I mean – iOS7 looks terrible)

But there’s one big thing.. they need to release this F-series (if true) with Google Play edition as well..

  • redraider133

I’ll be interested to see what they do and if this becomes their new flagship line. If so wonder what the s line will become being more “consumer friendly” if they will no longer be high end. Wish they would revamp touchwiz as well because with the specs Samsung pushes it shouldn’t lag like it does. Refine your skin and you will have pretty close to the perfect phone samsung

  • Rising33

Seriously aluminum body designs are nice but how many of u plan on keeping a phone for more than a yr. Samsung has done fine with thier line of plasticy phones because they see the trend of people wanting to get their hands on the next best thing and ditching their current handset like yesterday’s news. Granted there is a market for premium handsets ( for those that get a kick out of that ) but seriously. I see people selling their HTC One’s on Craigslist like its a joke. Where’s the benefit of a premium build there? Most people put a case on their phone anyway. When they invent a material where I dont have to use a case on my phone and worry about scratches from everyday use or impact resistant then Im ok with whats currently out there. Some people r seriously too supersuperficial careing about the silly things.

    • NeoJesus

      True dat!

  • Rising33

My point.. theres cars out there built in the 60′s and 70′s that will outlast most cars built today but how many people hold on to these cars or look for them? If every phone built today were to have some premium design, dam what a waist. Phone comapies know thiswhich I why they only come out with one or premium handsets. Apple has an advantage here because they only have 1 handset the Iphone thats it. How many phones does HTC have or Samsung or LG etc… I think these companies should have that one line up of premium phones and stick to it and the rest to suite everyone else. So I think if Samsung does this the right way it could be big for them. Just my 2 cents…..

  • CSharpner

“I know a lot of you don’t agree and actually like the plastic housing and all the perks that come along with it (removable battery), but there is a market for more premium Samsung devices”

I define “premium” partly on being able to open the back and insert an SD card and pull the battery. I don’t what it’s made of. To me, a plastic case that has those features is immensely more premium than a phone with any material that _doesn’t_ have those featuers.

  • cl2eep

Actually, Samsung’s bodies are far from cheap. The plastic they use is an impact resistant polycarbinate that is tougher than the many of the substances phones get made frkm

  • jenni102

my roomate’s half-sister makes $66 every hour on the internet. She has been out of a job for 5 months but last month her payment was $21881 just working on the internet for a few hours. i was reading this……….

    • Eben1277

      Whoa, is she single?

  • Matt Bourgeois

Removable battery is not needed when you have to only recharge you’re phone once a day. so if Samsung my favorite company makes a phone with high specs, amazing screen 5 inch or up and FULL METAL ALUMINUM PREMIUM STUFF!? I’ll be first in line to buy it. . the plastic does bug me. I wish my s4 was full aluminum honestly

    • NeoJesus

People spend more and more time on their phones, this trend is not decreasing. Building a phone that lasts all day on a single charge with HEAVY USE is possible, just use a Nexus 7.

  • ihatefanboys

Why “F” does it stand for “Fancy” ? Would have been better if they made it a “T” but it doesnt quite roll off the tongue and remind everyone of the original “S”

  • OkBryan

I have a leather battery cover on my s4 and it feels as nice as any phone out there. People blow that plastic cover way out of proportion

  • PaulieG

If your not wrapping your phone in a gel case then you either have a death wish, more dollars that sense, or you just don’t love your phone much..

Premium or not, every version of gorilla glass I’ve seen shatters just as easily as the last, and I personally believe the harder aluminium cases helps that occur.

I’m sure there’s a market it for it, but I’m not pedantic enough to bother with such materialistic values. All my prior Samsung’s are still alive and well having been paired with a sensible gel case throughout their service lives.

  • Paul Atreides

I say just make a device with a removable case. Then those who want plastic, metal, fur or flubber can have what they really want and what ever color they choose. I think they’re already working on a new version of Touchwiz that should be lighter. Fingers crossed…

  • Moody Jones

I had so much respect for the writer.

Until he said he owned a s4.

  • Eben1277

The problem isn’t plastic, its the type of plastic they use. Nokia makes plastic phones, and those phones are sweet.I have a lumia 521 and if it ran android (or if WP had a legitimate file system) it would be the best low end smartphone you could buy, and that has a plastic back, but that doesn’t stop it from feeling like a good device. My Galaxy Nexus is a great device, but it feels cheap as shit to hold (OK well it wasn’t very expensive), and it actually feels better than a GS3 or 4 to me.

  • GE918

    Just give a SD slot!

    • GE918

Just give me a SD slot!

  • Derrick B

Maybe it’s me but why worry about the housing of the phone when the majority of phones are in cases the entire life span of them

  • LG G2
  • Ryanide

Just because it’s made of Aluminum doesn’t mean that is cannot be a removable back plate, removable battery & SD Card.

I’ve seen devices be aluminum and have a back plate that slides off to the removable contents.

Let’s hope that Samsung has a slide off Aluminum battery cover with some clever design that meets the cover with the rest of the phone.

  • donger

It would still be over-priced using cheap materials. That’s how that are successful currently in the smartphone arena.

  • NeoJesus

Better not ditch the removable battery!

  • WatcherJohn

My ASUS Transformer Prime TF201 has an aluminum back.
Bluetooth, WiFi, and GPS reception? No so much!

  • David

As a Galaxy owner, GN2, I must say that I hate removable batteries. It lasts long Anyways, and the plastic feels cheap af
