Gold HTC One official, will be more widely available than 18-carat counterpart

Gold HTC One official

Gold seems to be becoming a bit of a thing in the smartphone world. Following the launches of both the gold iPhone 5s and gold Galaxy S 4s, HTC today officially took the wraps off of a gold version of its One flagship. Unlike the 18-carat gold model that debuted in October, this new HTC One is actually just gold-colored, meaning that it should be much easier to acquire than its precious metal-coated counterpart.

This new gold HTC One features a spec list that’s similar to the four other models that we’ve seen HTC introduce to date. That includes a 4.7-inch 1080p display, 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor, 4-megapixel UltraPixel rear camera and Android running beneath HTC’s custom Sense user interface. One feature that this gold HTC One does have over its silver, black and red siblings? The bling factor.

HTC anticipates that the new golden One will roll out across Europe with several different partners. That’s about all we’ve got to go on when it comes to this device’s availability right now, which is kind of a bummer considering our recent obsession with gold smartphones. Here’s to hoping that we’ll hear more soon.

Although it does seem a bit of a fad, I’ve got to say I think that colour suits the phone.

final nail in the coffin for gold HTC One

Real gold or plastic… You’re going to put a case on it anyways.

    • Troik

it’s not plastic, it’s a metal alloy. And I have never used a case in my life, because I don’t drop things.

    • Kg5

If that were the case, why would there even be different colored phones?

If it had upgraded internals it would be far more enticing. Gold doesn’t look too bad on metallic phones, I can’t say I dislike this or the champagne gold iPhone color. But I need it all, color/design, updated internals, and battery life. I really hate living by a charger.

I agree. The majority of people interested in the HTC One have already purchased it. A gold colored phone will entice a few more people, but the rest of us need something more than a new color to convince us to hand over another $600 for a device.

Hopefully HTC will continue the color trend into 2014 with the HTC M8 and have 3-4 color options available at launch.

I’m crossing my fingers that Verizon gets an M8 at the same time as everyone else. Crossing my fingers is easier than holding my breath for that long…

Shouldn’t a new version be coming out in a few months?

    Looks good in gold.
