Google joins hands with Bitspin, the creators of Timely

Google is famous for acquiring small companies with lots of potential. The latest company to enter into Google’s fold is Bitspin, the company responsible for the popular alarm clock app, Timely. Timely turned heads with its gorgeous design when it was released during the summer of 2013. While we’d love to give more details about what Google wants with Bitspin, not much information is out there. The Bitspin team simply put out a small message on their website saying that they’re “thrilled to announce that Bitspin is joining Google.”

While we can’t glean too much from their vague announcement, they did say that they’ll be continuing to design and build great products. That at least tells us that Google wants them for more than just adding them to their portfolio of companies. It is possible to speculate as far as to say that Timely could replace the stock clock app in Android, but we don’t expect that major of a change just yet. In fact, Google could simply be using the company to work on furthering design, as Timely is well-known for its looks. As is so often the case with these acquisitions, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

The press release is below if you want to peruse its full three sentence glory. Have any ideas as to what Google wants with Timely?

We’re thrilled to announce that Bitspin is joining Google, where we’ll continue to do what we love: building great products that are delightful to use.

For new and existing users, Timely will continue to work as it always has. Thanks to everyone who has downloaded our app and provided feedback along the way; we truly appreciate all your support.

Use this every day, just hope they don’t change too much, but would be nice with built in alarm sync as stock

They should just grab a camera company… Or at least a company that makes a good camera app…

This needs like 7 billion likes. Especially considering Google said they want their Nexus line to have better camera’s coming into the future.

Whenever I try to use my camera and am sitting next to someone with an iPhone (well everyone I know has an iPhone) , it makes me and more and more likely to make the switch – esp with rumors of a larger iPhone 6 on the horizon. Everyone I know has an iPhone and Ive yet to hear one complaint from them. My Android phones always have problems

I agree with Siku…There must be a way for websites to block those ip addresses.

Timely is hands down the best alarm clock app and I hope Google integrates is design and features onto the stock alarm or even better replacesthe stock with Timely.
Something I noticed yesterday after reading up on the news, if you go to your settings and click on Google under accounts, you can see that Timely already syncs with Google and this was before the update.
