As it stands now, if you’re interested in the Nexus 5 but want a device with a splash of color, you’ll have to settle for buying the phone in either black or white and then adding Google’s red or yellow bumper case to it. That may change soon, though, as a new set of photos has emerged that may have revealed the existence of a more colorful Nexus 5 model.
Twitter user @artyomstar today posted a trio of images that claim to show the retail packaging for a red version of the Nexus 5. The unit shown on the box features a design similar to the one found on the white Nexus 5, meaning that its got a red back that wraps around to the sides of the phone as well as a red earpiece on the front. A sticker on the bottom of the packaging includes the words “RED RED” as well as some different IMEI numbers and confirmation of the device’s 16GB of built-in storage.
Google has been offering its Nexus smartphones in both black and white options since the Nexus S was on store shelves, but so far we’ve yet to see El Goog release hardware in any other hues. While we’ll just have to wait and see whether or not that’ll actually change with the Nexus 5, Google has been releasing some pretty colorful accessories lately, including red and yellow bumper cases for the Nexus 5 as well as red and yellow sleeves for the Nexus 7. Perhaps the Big G finally decided that it was time to skip the cases and apply some color directly to its devices.
What do you think of this red Nexus 5? Will you buy a unit if it turns out to be the real deal?
UPDATE: Some more photos have been posted by @artyomstar that show the front and back of the red Nexus 5 itself. Check ‘em out below.
