Sony D6503 strikes a pose in new set of leaked photos

Sony has officially introduced us to four new Xperia smartphones since the start of 2014: The Xperia Z1S, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia T2 Ultra and Xperia E1. Today the list of new 2014 Xperia models is growing again, but this time it’s the rumor mill that’s doing the introducing.

An xda-developers forum member going by the name iRimas has posted images of what is said to be the “Sony D6503.” The device features the usual Sony and Xperia branding as well as an Omnibalance design that’s reminiscent of the Xperia Z1, but there are a few differences between the D6503 and Z1 that are worth mentioning. For example, the D6503 appears to feature slightly smaller side bezels than those found on the Z1, which could be because it features a larger display. The D6503 also has a different lanyard port placement and a set of three speaker holes at its bottom, the latter of which differs from the Z1′s large mesh speaker grille.

Spec details for the Sony D6503 are relatively light, but iRimas does say that the unit features a 20.7-megapixel shooter on its backside, and the photo of the device’s rear shows that it’s also got Sony’s G Lens sensor. The screen on the D6503 is said to measure 5.2 inches in size, slightly larger than the Z1′s 5-inch display, and the D6503 is also reportedly packing Android 4.3 and a body that’s slightly thinner than the Z1′s frame.

There’s no word yet on exactly what this D6503 is, but because because of its specs and Z1-like design, some have suggested that it could be a follow-up to Sony’s current flagship phone. That’s certainly a possibility, though there’s also a chance that this could just be some sort of prototype that was never meant to see the light of day. The good news is that Mobile World Congress is just a month away, and I’m sure that Sony isn’t going to show up to one of the biggest mobile shows of the year empty-handed, so it may not be long before we learn the D6503′s true identity. Until then, you can hit up the xda link below to check out a few more images of the device lounging around in the wild.

I would love to see Sony come out with a competitor for the Galaxy Note… More competition on that “class” is inevitable, I’m surprised it’s taking the other big manufacturers so long to offer a realistic alternative. in my opinion it’s about more than just size, it’s about the S Pen and the optimization and proprietary applications to support that hardware

I think your right.. Other OEMs are lacking a couple of places when it comes to competing with the Note series and that’s support and optimization for their phones and not just say “here yu go.. A Note competitor..” the Note succeeds because of the S Pen and the optimization for the hardware… But it looks like your right.. In that “class [true] competition is inevitable..”

Interesting.. Prototype or follow up.. Sony is definitely trying to get a into the game hardcore… And their new line up is pretty impressive.. Bravo Sony for showing us how serious you really are.. Not to say that yu weren’t serious before… But yu know what I mean..
