Sony D6503 ‘Sirius’ laid out next to Xperia Z1, Z in leaked photo

Sony’s D6503 “Sirius” kind of fell off the radar after appearing in a couple of leaks last month, but thankfully it’s back again today.

Some new images of the Sony Sirius have popped up on Chinese forum Digi-Wo that show the unannounced Xperia smartphone lounging around in the wild. The first photo shows the Sirius next to a couple of other Sony flagships, the Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z. The Sirius is just a hair taller than the other two, likely due to its larger display that’s expected to measure 5.2 inches. (The other two have 5-inch screens.)

The second image gives us a glimpse at both the black and white versions of the Sirius. The latter of the two features a white outer edge and black front, giving it a panda-like design similar to the white Nexus 5.

These latest shots reaffirm that the Sirius will feature the Omnibalance design that Sony has utilized for several of its recent Xperia smartphones. That Omnibalance frame is expected to house a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor and 3GB of RAM. To compare, the Xperia Z1 sports a Snapdragon 800 CPU and 2GB of RAM. We’re still missing a few other important Sirius spec details, including its battery size and internal storage, but so far it sounds like a respectable successor to the Z1.

The source of today’s leak claims that Sony is planning to launch the D6503 Sirius in April. Here’s to hoping that that’s the case, because both HTC and Samsung are expected to introduce their 2014 flagship Android phones in the next month or two, and so Sony needs to get the Sirius on shelves as close as it can to those other devices so that shoppers will at least consider picking it up when hunting for a new handset.

What do you think of the Sony D6503 Sirius so far? Do you plan on checking it out whenever it arrives in stores?

I fail to see the purpose of such a device. I already own a Z1, but this looks like a silly upgrade in terms of specs. A sure skip for me.
