KitKat update for the UK HTC One pulled due to issues

It looks like HTC is having some trouble in the United Kingdom. The Android 4.4 KitKat update was released for the HTC One in the country, but it has been causing problems for some people and has been pulled for now. If you’re waiting for the update to roll out to your device, you’ll unfortunately have to wait until HTC fixes the issue and starts the rollout all over again.

HTC has not stated what the issue with the update was, which would have been very interesting to know. The only thing the company released is this statement:

“We are aware that a limited number of HTC users are experiencing difficulties with the KitKat update. As a result, all FOTA updates have been temporarily suspended. HTC is committed to providing customers with the best possible mobile experience and we are working hard to resolve the issue quickly.”HTC

The way HTC has been updating devices lately, we’re sure it won’t take too long to get the update fixed up and rolling out again. For the first time in a long time, HTC has been consistently decent with updates. Have any of you received this update in the UK? Having troubles? Leave a comment!

    Installed the update 24th Feb. No issues yet that I’ve noticed. Can’t see much difference to 4.3 either, except that mirroring to my Panasonic Viera TV now works consistently – only worked around 10% of the time with 4.3. It’s a shame HTC have decided to keep us those of us who have the update in the dark as to what the issues are.

      I agree, keeping customers in the dark isn’t the right thing to do.

    I received update lastnight and now I can’t connect to any WiFi? It’s That’s probably the issue, I hope they fix it soon

      Try going into recovery. Volume up and power key I believe. Wipe data and cache. If that doesnt work, you can do factory reset. Back up to save stuff

    It seems know single company can do an update right. That’s why I wait and see. Thenusually I take the update by custom rom with stock. Htc wreak my one s, going from ics to jellybean Samsung wreaked my girlfriends S3, with 4.3 update and I read about all other bad updates. It really is unbelievable because you can go back without rooting and flashing.

      Cant go back after update without rooting and flashing. Typo

    I updated my HTC One today to Kitkat & it went very smoothly. Afterwards I read that Kitkat had been suspended, which I was shocked at. I’ve not identified any problems so far & I live in the UK.

    That’s confusing although am not in the UK I think HTC should advise it’s customers what the problem is so they are aware by the way Samsung had the same problem with the S3 it shows there is no perfect manufacturer

    I figured it out, Go to wifi and then chose wifi direct. Then rename to HTC one and hit ok, Everything working perfectly now

    My HTC One on UK Vodafone has the update. Battery life is not good, no exchange email, running very hot, sense 5.5 is using huge amount of Ram

  • Norman

    Installed KK on 24/02/2014 (Sim-Free HTC One) when it became available in the UK. Battery life now poor and Car mode no longer automatically launches the Car Dock App.

    Updated my ‘One’ last week and initially everything seemed ok, but it was certainly underwhelming – no obvious changes or benefits at all. A week later everything still seems to work ok …… phone, Wi-Fi, mobile internet etc. etc. BUT battery life has plummeted by 50%.

    I see from previous posts that other issues have been identified also, but the poor battery life seems to be a common theme throughout.

    I have a Vodafone HTC One… 3 main problems have emerged since the update:
    1) Battery life is now terrible… I’m now on power-save by 7pm every day. I would previously get through a whole day with at least 50% left at night;
    2) Wifi turns itsself off randomly (though I can turn it back on again);
    3) Seemingly at random, the screen brightness will drop to zero rendering the phone useless until you can “feel” your way to turning the screen back on.
    It’s terrible really.
