New HTC One to go on sale immediately following launch event

The unveiling of the new HTC One will take place a week from today, but the latest bit of news about the still-unannounced device has revealed its launch date. According to a release from Carphone Warehouse, “the new HTC One (M8) handset will be available from selected stores from around 4pm on Tuesday 25th March — just minutes after it is officially announced.” It seems devices will be transported from the launch event in London to six Carphone Warehouse stores at which point they will go on sale to consumers.

The Carphone Warehouse price for the new HTC One is unknown at this point, but we’re sure interested customers will be able to get a pretty good deal once they pair the phone with a two-year service agreement. Launch details for the US and the rest of Europe are up in the air at this point, but everything we’ve seen so far indicates that consumers across the globe will be able to get their hands on the new HTC One in the second half of March.

London, 18.03.14: In a retail first, Carphone Warehouse has revealed that the new HTC One (M8) handset will be available from selected stores from around 4pm on Tuesday 25th March — just minutes after it is officially announced.

The new HTC flagship device will be officially unveiled by the manufacturer at special events in London and New York earlier that afternoon. Shortly after, the new HTC One (M8) handsets will be transported directly from the venue of the launch announcement to six Carphone Warehouse stores in London. Westfield Stratford, Westfield White City, Oxford Circus, Centrepoint and Tottenham Court Road stores will all be hosting special events celebrating the HTC launch with entertainment and giveaways as well as the first chance for customers to get their hands on the new device. Carphone Warehouse at Selfridges will also be stocking the handset from the same time.

Full information including videos of the new handset will be shared on and customers will be able to order the HTC One (M8) over the phone from the same afternoon, before it is available from all 770 Carphone Warehouse stores and to order online shortly afterwards.

A Carphone Warehouse spokesperson comments, “The HTC One is an award winning handset that set the bar for design during 2013 and made many sit up and take notice — the new HTC One M8 is likely to continue that trend and will cement HTC’s future as a heavy-hitting smartphone manufacturer. We know how keen customers are to get hold of the latest tech as soon as possible and that is why we are so excited to be able to offer the new HTC One so quickly after it is unveiled.”

Finally, March 25th couldn’t come any sooner!

  • donger

    Wow, didn’t expect this.

    • pekosROB

      Yep, colored me impressed.

  • surethom

WoW, now we know why HTC left it till the end of march to announce the M8 & not in February so they could launch almost straight away (in a few stores anyway)

This is a massive move to take sales away from Samsung Galaxy S5, lets hope HTC M8 advertising is way better the the dreadful HTC adverts we have had over the last year or so.

    • pekosROB

Yeah, so I wonder if the “buyer’s remorse” comment is more about those who preordered and can’t cancel their S5 preorder? lol

    • Richard Yarrell

You can give HTC a 2 month head start with the New Htc One and it still won’t sell more than the Galaxy S5. Face facts boys and girls HTC is done, over with, and past their time years ago…

      • squiddy20

Yes, just because HTC *might* not sell as many phones as Samsung, automatically means HTC is “over with” or “past their time”. If that were the case, all manufacturers besides Samsung would cease to exist. What a moron.

  • surethom

For once we will be getting user reviews before the large tech review sites (like this) have a chance to post there reviews, WoW. Nice one HTC.

lets hope the camera does not disappoint

    • Panama

I agree with Richard. If the camera isn’t better than the current HTC one, they are toast.
I miss the camer from the HTC Amaze 4G, IMHO it put all other camera phones at the time to shame. They should have just kept it for the ONE. I will switch to Samsung if the camera disappoints

  • Sean Riley

Sweet! I bet we get it on Verizon by September then.

This is a great move by HTC. I’ve been waiting for someone to do this for a long time.

      Me too.

  • geeky sihag

great article……LG also entered into wearables market…..using Android wear technology by google ….

  • Paul Atreides

Smart move by HTC. However, I don’t think this will matter unless they get the word out there and must convince consumers the M8 has some good features they’re missing out on with the competition. Fight on HTC!

  • Nate B.

Damn, I was just hoping companies would allow pre-orders on the same week that Friday and then slowing purchase in stores or orders that following Friday. Immediately launch is even better.

  • Zomer

The HTC One 2014 could be doing great, considering the fact that the S5 and Xperia Z2 aren’t that impressive as well.

  • Guido

I would like to see the competition between the new HTC One M8, the Xperia Z2 and the Galaxy S5. Last year it was clear that Samsung had the best phone, but this year it might be HTC after all

  • Carlijn

I think the One M8 is a worthy competitor to other high- end smartphones on the market, like the Galaxy S5 and iPhone 5s.
