Samsung Galaxy S5 Zoom to be called ‘Galaxy K,’ will be announced April 29

Samsung Galaxy K S5 Zoom invite

The Samsung Galaxy S4 zoom wasn’t a particularly amazing device, but it was a very interesting concept. The device traded high-end features for a beefy camera setup with a 10x optical zoom lens, 16-megapixel sensor and a xenon flash, making it a great cameraphone with mid-range specs. It was a great tradeoff for some, but that giant camera sticking out of the back wasn’t pretty or comfortable.

This year, things will be a little different. The Galaxy S5 zoom will be rebranded to Galaxy K and will have a few changes. First and foremost, it will feature a 20-megapixel sensor while retaining the a 10x optical zoom lens and xenon flash found on its predecessor. This setup will not stick out as much as it did on the S4 zoom, so it’ll be a more compact package.

Other rumored Galaxy S5 zoom specs include a 4.8-inch 720p Super AMOLED display, a hexacore Exynos processor (two 1.5GHz Cortex-A15 cores and four 1.3GHz Cortex-A7 cores), 2GB of RAM, a 2-megapixel front facing camera and Android 4.4.2 KitKat. It’s definitely mid-range, but that’s not a bad thing.

The Galaxy S5 zoom/Galaxy K will be unveiled on April 29 in Singapore at the Red Dot Design Museum. This will be a new line of devices, which makes us hope that we may see the top-of-the-line Galaxy F sometime soon as well. Hey, we can dream, can’t we?

Would you consider getting a Galaxy K? Tell us in the comments!

I’m guessing the high MP count will always be the tradeoff for the rest of the specs on Zoom devices, which is kind of a shame. Lol. I’m glad that they are rebranding it though, It makes the Zoom it’s own thing. It will be less confusing to potential customers looking for the S brand. I hope they drop the S moniker on the Active brand as well.

I’m sort of hoping against them releasing the Galaxy F. Especially after they said they weren’t working on another flagship outside of the Note. I just got the S5 on the knowledge there was no F in the works, that would bum me out if that happens. Ha

There is more then “high MP count.” The zoom body, lense and glass add to the thickness. Personally, I don’t were skinny jeans, so the extra couple of mm fit just fine on my pocket.

and.. I realized I misread your comment,. I do wish to see a full S5 Zoom variant.

I don’t understand what specs make it “mid-range” Can you explain that please….

cpu, ram storage and screen resolution.

After reading your clear comments, yes, to the new K, and may buy it if not overpriced. The photo images since its on now a 20.2 MP camera, will naturally be clearer than that of the old 16 MP, 10 x zoom Which was a bulky ,ugly, model series.

So the “K” really means Korea?

  • Konstantinos Velaoras

I ll get it if there is a waterproof/water resistance protection

Why didn’t they make the s5 with this camera? Then people wouldn’t be so quick to judge

K doesn’t do it for me it sounds very low mid grade. I really love the galaxy s5 but despise the ugly ridge cheap plastic fake aluminum looking.
Such a nice phone and looks so cheap to the touch.and by the way I love Samsung galaxy line so im not some iphone lover knocking my brand so I wanna get that out on the table guy..lol.. and yes I will be buying the galaxy s5 probably in july because of my upgrade is due then..

I love my galaxys4 zoom…I have a child in multiple sports and I when I got it I was wary but man you can’t beat the camera and the zoom on a smartphone, upgraded from the HTC one and am not upgrading until the K is out, live it

I have the S4 Zoom and can’t wait to try the “k”
SLR cameras are bulky and it is easier to carry a phone… I film surfing videos and use the S4 Zoom for this and it works like a dream – even filming in HD and Slomo. When you have used the S4 Zoom only then wil lyou know what Iam referring to – I will not replace this with a SLR/Gopro/Polaroid instamatic of yesteryear… but I will replace my S4 Zoom with GalaxyK
