Verizon Xperia Z2 shown off by Sony in official image

Sony recently confirmed that the Xperia Z2 would be coming to this US this summer, but the company would only say that it plans to sell the Z2 through its own online shop, saying that its discussions with carriers were ongoing. Now it looks like we can confirm that at least one US carrier has signed on to offer the newest Xperia smartphone.

Sony today posted an image to its official Google+ account that clearly shows a Verizon-branded Xperia Z2. The device looks like the regular Z2 that we spent some hands-on time with earlier this year, with the only noticeable changes being that the Sony logo has moved to the bottom of the device and a Verizon logo has been put in its place up top.

It’s been quite a while since we last saw a Sony device launch on Verizon. With its 5.2-inch 1080p display, 20.7-megapixel rear camera and 2.3GHz quad-core processor, the Xperia Z2 looks like a nice way to end that drought. There’s no word yet on when the Verizon Xperia Z2 will launch or how much it’ll cost when it does, but at least now Big Red’s customers know that they’ll soon have another Android flagship available to them.

UPDATE: Sony has reached out to us with an official statement regarding this image:

“A mock-up image was mistakenly posted to the Sony Mobile Google+ page. The image has since been removed and we apologize for any confusion this may have caused. For our U.S. customers eager to find out more information about the availability of Xperia Z2, we are excited to share that the device will be coming to the U.S. unlocked this summer.”

Good to see this awesome device coming to Verizon. It’s a shame they plaster their logo on the front, but at least those on Verizon finally are going to get a high end sony device!

It’s nice to know that Verizon has an option for those wanting a good camera on a phone but don’t want to switch to Lumia! Well, I know megapixels aren’t the end all be all of picture quality but it doesn’t hurt when implemented correctly. I wonder how much bloatware will be on the device and if it comes with an unlocked bootloader. Great option for those not interested in the S5 or M8.

Sidenote from the PhoneDog video included in the article. I had never heard of LifeLog. I checked it out. Appears it will work on non-Sony devices. Sounds interesting. Fairly good reviews.

I’m all excited. I boycott Sammy, HTC has not been ringing my bell, but lg g2 had been my favorite phone ever. Was gonna wait for g3, but I’m jumping on this when it’s out

I want this phone so bad but not on Verizon.

As long as it doesn’t have a crazy MSRP, this may be a future device. This would be my first Sony handset so this will be interesting.
