HTC Desire 816 heading to Virgin Mobile stores tomorrow

HTC-Desire-816 (6)

The HTC One (M8) was bestowed upon all major service providers in the US, Verizon secured the HTC One Remix (a re-branded HTC One mini 2) and AT&T got its own variant of the HTC Desire 610. But what about the HTC Desire 816 that was unveiled at Mobile World Congress as a “flagship mid-range” smartphone? Thanks to Virgin Mobile, the HTC Desire 816 is finally making its debut in the US market.

HTC and Virgin Mobile have just announced that the mid-range smartphone with a 5.5-inch display will go on sale on August 12 for $299. As with all other Virgin Mobile smartphones, the phone will only be sold off-contract. Virgin Mobile does sell the Samsung Galaxy S5 for $600, but there’s really nothing else in the operator’s lineup that’s even half way decent. The HTC Desire 816 will change that. The phone features a beautiful 5.5-inch 720p display, Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, microSD expansion (up to 128GB), a long-lasting 2,600mAh battery, a 13-megapixel f/2.2 camera on the back, a 5-megapixel “selfie” camera and front-facing BoomSound speakers with dedicated amps.

If you had to buy a phone from Virgin Mobile, would the HTC Desire 816 be at the top of your list?

Already bought the 816 (as a replacement for my Galaxy S2), but from QVC for only $199 + tax! :))

    • Frank

Thanks for the heads up about the QVC site. I was about to pull the trigger on this for $300 but by simply heading to a different website I got $100 bucks off.

      You’re the man :)

I ordered mine from QVC as well last week…I can’t stop checking the UPS delivery status!

Awesome dime with QVC Tony, made my decision to upgrade easy. I’ve been running off of the Motorola Triumph for years now. My wife has been through 3 phones in that time.

I feel that for something a big as a 5.5″ screen it would make sense to have a larger battery but perhaps that Snapdragon 400 will make it last as long as or longer than other smartphones with 3,000mAh batteries.

  • taylor

I bought one too on for 199 dollars I can’t wait to get it it is supposed to be here Thursday I don’t understand why qvc has it for only 199 when virgin mobile is going to sell it for 299 but hey I got a good deal so I am happy

  • Maurice

I ordered two of the phones from qvc headed to my house today…

The features are really impressive like 5.5 inch 720P, Snpdragon 400 Quad Core processor, 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage with microSD expansion up to 128GB, and 2600mAh battery that once dully charged on Multi Port USB Charger runs all day long with normal use.

” but there’s really nothing else in the operator’s lineup that’s even half way decent” ridiculously snarky comment, the S3 is beyond halfway decent even still in 2014.

“but there’s really nothing else in the operator’s lineup that’s even half way decent” ridiculously snarky comment, S5 is not ” halfway decent” Odd reasoning

They have the HTC DESIRE 816 on HSN too.HSN recently had for 179, as a today special, otherwise is usually 199 on HSN. If order over HSN internet site you don’t have to pay taxes. If order item by phone on HSN, they will charge tax(This has to do with some law about what states the company actually has a physical business in). QVC also recently had this phone on TSV for 179 plus tax for a day then back to 199 plus tax. QVC charges tax no matter how order a item. ShopHq doesn’t sell HTC phones at this time, but do sell cell phones. You can order over phone or their site and don’t get charged tax either way. Just some helpful info to save money. I bought my HTC Desire 816 on QVC also. Would have got on HSN but we’re out at time.
