Those interested in picking up the HTC RE camera should be excited to hear that the retail launch may only be a few weeks out. Originally, HTC said that the RE would be shipping in time for the holidays, but the company has just sent out an email to everyone who ordered the orange HTC RE informing them of a launch delay due to supply constraints. For now, only the one color appears to be affected, and HTC is offering a 10 percent discount for the inconvenience and is also giving those who ordered the orange RE the opportunity to switch the white model.
The good news? Those who switch their order to the white HTC RE will “receive it around November 15th.” We know many of you are still questioning HTC’s decision to get into a new product category, but let’s be open minded for a minute. HTC may not have the market power to push GoPro out of the way, but we’d be surprised if HTC doesn’t pocket a cool $120 for every RE that sells. Also, a product like the RE will help HTC get its hands on better camera sensors and lenses, eventually leading to better cameras on HTC phones.
