Sprint makes WiMax shutdown date official

After the date leaked a few days ago, Sprint has confirmed that it will be shutting down its WiMax network on November 6, 2015. Internal documents revealing the date came out over the weekend and due to legal requirements, Sprint needed to inform customers of the shutdown at least one year in advance. Customers can either upgrade to a new device or continue to use their device on Sprint’s 3G network, which will remain functional.

With the rollout of its 4G LTE and Spark networks, Sprint is in a good position to shut off the now-dated WiMax network. The shutdown shouldn’t cause much of a disruption, as very few people still use the WiMax network. All in all, it’s a step towards a brighter, faster future.

Anyone know if the affects the Clearwire network? AFAIK that’s on Sprint’s WiMax and Sprint owns them now.
