Half Life 2: Episode One now available for the SHIELD tablet

Half Life 2 Episode One

Valve’s partnership has finally yielded another game for NVIDIA hardware owners to enjoy. Previously, Half-Life 2 was released on the NVIDIA SHIELD, the not-quite-famous handheld Android gaming device. The fact that Half-Life 2 went mobile and was ported to Android was exciting, but the device exclusivity put a damper on our moods.

This time around, Half-Life 2: Episode One has been released for the NVIDIA SHIELD tablet. Episode One is quite a bit shorter than the original game, but is still fun and engrossing. It’s exclusive to the SHIELD tablet and will need a controller to be playable, so you’ll really have to shell out on the hardware to play this on the go. You’ll also need a massive 3GB of free space, a tough demand for 16GB tablet owners.

Luckily, if you own a SHIELD tablet LTE, you can get this game for free instead of paying $7.99. LTE model owners also get the original Half-Life 2 and Portal for free as part of the “Green Box Bundle,” which should add some value to the device. How many of you have a SHIELD tablet out there?

I’m assuming the free games are only for new purchases? They showed up as not free for me on my 32 GB LTE Shield.

I’m actually unsure about how to get it for free. I think you might get a code… I’m unsure though.

You’re correct, you only get the free games if you bought the LTE SHIELD tablet after the Green Box bundle was announced.

If I remember correctly you were in on it earlier than that pekosROB, but the redemption page is here.

Yeah, I got it right when it dropped. Damn, that sucks! Early adopters get shafted… at least I got my tablet and had it longer than I would have had I waited. :-P

I have the 16gb version and it’s a shame they are not giving out these games for free for my device as well. I won’t be buying them and re- play them on my PC, instead.

It would have been nice to at least see the option for the bundle with the 16GB tablet, but I understand they can’t just give it away to everyone.
