CES 2015 is kicking off with several big announcements, and the latest one is from ASUS. The ASUS Zenfone 2 is ASUS’ flagship phone for 2015 and it features some excellent specs. The display is of the IPS variety and is sized at 5.5-inches with a 1080p resolution. The design of the phone utilizes brushed metal and has a rounded back, similar to the design of the HTC One (M8).
The camera in the Zenfone 2 is a big deal for ASUS. It’s a 13-megapixel sensor that’s paired with an f/2.0 aperture and pixel-merging technology for significant improvements in low-light performance. ASUS also says that it has the best HDR out there, but we’ll have to test it out before we can believe that. On the front-facing side, we can find a 5-megapixel camera.
Performance internals are also fantastic. ASUS and Intel have partnered to put a 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Atom Z3580 processor inside the Zenfone 2. In addition to that, the Zenfone 2 is the first smartphone to include 4GB RAM, which is a huge amount for such a small device. In case you’re worried, the battery is well able to keep up, as it’s a 3000mAh battery with fast-charging technology that allows it to go from 0-60% in just 39 minutes. On the software end, the Zenfone 2 features ASUS’ ZenUI over Android 5.0 Lollipop.
The ASUS Zenfone Zoom is another new smartphone from ASUS that focuses on the camera. It hearkens of the Nokia Lumia 1020, with a camera hump on the back that allows it to have 3x optical zoom. That’s paired with a 10-element lens, 13-megapixel sensor and optical image stabilization for incredible detail and low-light performance. Laser autofocus is included and the software includes a powerful macro mode as well as full manual control over camera settings.
The Zenfone Zoom is also equipped with a 5.5-inch 1080p display, 5-megapixel front-facing camera Android 5.0 Lollipop with ZenUI.
ASUS has priced the Zenfone 2 at $199 off-contract and it will be available in March with five different color options. The Zenfone Zoom is priced at $399 off-contract and will be available in Q2 2015.
