Android 5.1 Lollipop is the next Android update, shipping on Android One devices

Android 5.1 Lollipop is the next substantial update for Android. Though Android 5.0 Lollipop has only been available for a few months, it appears that a fairly weighty update is coming soon. References to Android 5.1 were spotted on Android One’s Indonesian page and new images have confirmed that the build is real and shipping with Android One devices in Indonesia.

To further substantiate the reality, Android Police went through its servers and found that numerous Nexus devices running Android 5.1 have hit its website, indicating that Google has been quietly testing Android 5.1 on Nexus devices. For a final confirmation, you can check out Google’s tweet about Android One in Indonesia. The time listed on the devices in the photo is 5:10, which is Google’s subtle way of letting us know what version of Android the devices are running.

While the new version is currently available only on Android One devices in Indonesia, an official announcement should be coming very soon with an update for Nexus devices to follow. What the update contains is unknown, but it’s likely an update to cover a swath of bugs from Lollipop while also enhancing general performance. We’ll know soon enough when Google makes an official announcement regarding the update.

Hopefully this will fit the memory issues on my Nexus 5 since last update, it stutter & slows down so much I have to restart the phone once or twice a week as it stutters so much.

You’re not alone. In fact I need to restart my phone every 1-2 days.

Frankly it sounds like a garbage collection issue. Either the cleanup takes too long, or it doesn’t free enough memory.

Yes, always pleasant having the best phone on the market but then an update slows it down. Hopefully this will put my faith back into Nexus devices.
