Google Helpouts will shut down on April 20

We haven’t heard much about Google Helpouts since its launch in late 2013. That’s ending today, but unfortunately for fans of Helpouts, the news isn’t good.

Google says that it’s shutting down Helpouts on April 20, 2015. Both the Android and iOS apps have already been pulled from their respective app stores. Starting on April 20, you’ll be able to download your Helpouts history using Google Takeout. Your history will be available through November 1.

Obviously it’s kind of a bummer to see Helpouts disappear, because the idea of being able to connect with an expert in a particular field in real-time sounds great. The service doesn’t seem like it ever really gained much traction with consumers, though, and so Google is likely pulling the plug so that it can allocate its sources to a another project.

Have you ever used Google Helpouts?

This is a perfect example of how I love and hate Google. I never knew about this product. I am a Google Apps partner and massively immersed in Google Eco-System, and I was still not aware of this application. Google’s reliance out of buzz and word of mouth isn’t always going to work. It’s quite ironic that a company that is an industry leader in advertising services, doesn’t know how to advertise for itself. I’m slightly irritated by this and wish they would step up their game in this area. I don’t know if I’m going to be missing out on something by this product leaving, but I know that I wasn’t aware of it and had know way to support it without knowing about it.

Does video commerce have a future? I think so. We are a UK based startup and unlike Helpouts, have specifically targeted those individuals at the top of their industries. If you’re looking for a replacement for Helpouts, check us out at http://www.vexbook.com

Looks like you have a great product there. I also agree there’s a future in it. In south Korea tutors an make 100s of thousands of dollars and some treated like rock icons.

However your site doesn’t run well on android/chrome, it’s very bad indeed, stutters and lags, I had to exit out.
