Samsung says Sprint’s Galaxy S5 will get Lollipop starting February 5

Just a few days after Verizon began pushing Android 5.0 to its Samsung Galaxy S5, another CDMA GS5 variant is going to get a Lollipop treat.

Samsung’s support page for the Sprint Galaxy S5 says that the device will get an update to Android 5.0 starting tomorrow, February 5. In addition to Lollipop, the Sprint GS5’s update will bring an enhanced Voice over Wi-Fi user interface and the removal of the Lumen tool bar. The update will bump the GS5 up to software version G900PVPU1AOA6.

In the past, CDMA carriers haven’t exactly been known for being super speedy with software updates, so it’s awesome to see Sprint and Verizon getting their Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 updates out first. Now we just have to hope that AT&T and T-Mobile’s own Lollipop rollouts won’t be far behind.

There is a report somewhere which states Lollipop 5.1 is around the corner, which fixes some problems (memory leak, …) in 5.0. Regardless, this should be joy to S5 owners.

I’m running 5.0 right now, and so far I love it.

    It sucks, don’t install it.

Now, when the phone is locked I see “Verizon Wireless” on the status bar instead of waiting message indicators. You have to unlock the phone to see those. Why?

My IR remove apps have stopped working. I downloaded new ones and none of them work.

I am sure these issues are probably unique to Verizon suckers, err customers, so YMMV. So far, the upgrade sucks and I preferred 4.4.whatever.
