While the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 edge probably covered the needs of most Samsung fans it did notably leave out those that were fans of the waterproof predecessors of those devices. Fear not though, thanks to a user agent profile found on Samsung Mobile’s site yesterday and confirmation from SamMobile’s sources today, it is all but official that the current Galaxy S6 models will be joined by a ruggedized, waterproof sibling in the near future.
The specs are largely the same as the standard S6:
- Exynos 7420 processor
- QHD Display
- 3GB RAM
- 32GB ROM
- 16MP rear camera
- 5MP front-facing camera
The notable departures are the battery, which will get a bump to 3,500mAh, and the size of the phone itself, which will beef up to 73.6 x 146.9 x 8.8mm. This is a 2-3mm increase in all directions from the standard Galaxy S6.
The model number, SM-G890A, points to this model coming to AT&T. Whether that is an exclusive or they are merely the first to launch remains to be seen.
Some people have expressed concern that the Galaxy S6 design might not take a fall so well; is a more robust model tempting to you?
