Good news, OnePlus One owners: Your Lollipop update is less than two weeks away!
OnePlus says that it plans to push Android 5.0 to the OnePlus One by the end of March. The company will actually make two different updates available: the first will be its own Lollipop-based OxygenOS ROM, which will be made available for download on or before March 27. The second update is the Lollipop-based CyanogenMod 12S, which will begin rolling out over the air on or before March 30.
It’s interesting that OnePlus One owners are going to have a couple of choices when it comes to their Android 5.0 updates. Those users are probably accustomed to Android 5.0 at this point, but they’ll have a chance to try what OnePlus has created with its first custom Android ROM, which it’s promised will be bloatware-free and streamlined for performance. I’m looking forward to finding out what OnePlus was able to make.
These updates are coming a bit later than originally expected, which OnePlus says is the result of several bugs. The company ran into unforeseen problems that include an OS signing problem, camera module stability issues related to Android 5.0, and problems with Wi-Fi drivers. OnePlus is committed to getting Lollipop out by the end of March, though, and it says that it’ll give away five 64GB OnePlus One smartphones if it misses these latest deadlines.
