The Sony Xperia Z4v will launch at Verizon Wireless this summer in both black and white models. As its name suggests, the Z4v is a variant of the Xperia Z4, but the Verizon-bound handset has one major upgrade over its sibling: a higher-res display. While the Xperia Z4’s got a 5.2-inch 1920×1080 screen, the Xperia Z4v takes things up a notch by offering a 5.2-inch 2560×1440 screen.
Sony’s also placed a lot of focus on the camera and audio features of the Xperia Z4v. On the camera side, you can expect a 20.7-megapixel rear camera with 4K video capture, 25mm wide angle lens, and SteadyShot image stabilization, while the front is home to a 5-megapixel shooter that’s got the same 25mm wide angle lens and SteadyShot tech. Sony’s also included several camera modes like Superior Auto and Gourmet Mode, the latter of which aims to make your food photos more appetizing.
Meanwhile, the audio on the Z4v includes high-res audio to give a fidelity boost to MP3 and AAC tracks, LDAC support for listening to high-res audio over Bluetooth, and Automatic Headset Optimization, which will allow the Z4v to automatically adjust its audio settings to whatever headphones you’re using to give you the best listening experience.
The Xperia Z4v’s body is IP65/68 rated for dust and water resistant, but unlike some other water resistant devices, it’s got a capless microUSB port that ought to make plugging your phone in a less frustrating experience. Speaking of plugging in, the Xperia Z4v supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 thanks to the inclusion of an octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor. And for those times you don’t feel like plugging in a cable to charge, you can utilize the Xperia Z4v’s wireless charging capabilities, which supports both Qi and PMA styles.
Rounding out the Xperia Z4v’s spec list is 32GB of storage, a microSD card slot (which lives under a cap on the side of the phone, next to the SIM slot), 3GB of RAM, a 3000mAh battery, 4G LTE connectivity, and Android 5.0.2 Lollipop.
So there you have it. It’s exciting to see that not only is the Xperia Z4 coming to the U.S., but that it’s getting a nice spec bump in the form of a high-res display. The downside is that the Z4v is a Verizon exclusive, but we in 2014 we saw the Z3v hit Verizon and the regular Z3 hit T-Mobile, so here’s to hoping that the regular Z4 will eventually make its way to a US operator or two.Show Press Release
