Samsung has announced the Galaxy Tab S2 in two different sizes

Samsung Galaxy Tab S2

After last year’s high-end Galaxy Tab S, many have waited for Samsung to release a fitting successor. The company is doing that now with the Galaxy Tab S2, which will come in two different size variants of an 8-inch model and a larger 9.7-inch model. Samsung is placing an emphasis on the size and weight, with the company saying that the tablets offer the thinnest and lightest metal frame of their size. Both tablets come in at just 5.6mm thin, with the 8-inch model weighing in at 265g and the 9.7-inch version clocking in at a slightly heavier 389g.

The tablets share the same specs, regardless of their size. Both are equipped with Super AMOLED displays with a resolution of 2048×1536, an octa-core processor with four cores clocked at 1.9GHz and the other four at 1.3GHz, 3GB of RAM, 32/64GB internal storage plus a microSD card slot, 8-megapixel rear camera, 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera, fingerprint scanner, and Android 5.0 Lollipop. The 8-inch model features a 4,000mAh battery while the larger 9.7-inch model comes equipped with a 5,870mAh battery.

By specs alone, the Galaxy Tab S2 tablets are well up to par and should prove to be good additions to the market. We were big fans of last year’s Galaxy Tab S, so we’re hoping that this year’s model is just as good, and hopefully sorts out some of the odd quirks that last year’s model had.

Both Wi-Fi and LTE variants are slated for a global launch in August with black and white color options. There’s no word on pricing or exact availability just yet, but we’ll keep you posted.
