Copying Snapchat is nothing new. The app brought us short 24 hour photos and videos as well as a private messaging system that allows one view before the content disappears, and everyone now aspires to be Snapchat.
Instagram and Facebook Messenger both got “stories” in pretty much the same implementation as Snapchat, and now it’s the Facebook app getting the feature. The top of the app now has the same top bar for stories that Instagram has, including the direct button to direct message someone a temporary piece of content.
The update also added camera effects. Swipe right from your news feed and you’ll get a camera with tons of effects, including interactive ones as well as sponsored ones for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2, Despicable Me 3, and more.
While this is a copy of Snapchat, more features can’t hurt. Stories are somewhat fun, though usually it’s hard to justify posting something as a story rather than a more permanent part of your feed. Either way, the update is rolling out to Android and iOS now so check it out if you still use the Facebook app.
