The HTC U11 has been getting mixed reviews, and some people on the internet are unhappy with some of HTC’s decisions in making the device. It’s normal for the internet to be negative about most things, but HTC doesn’t seem to be happy about it.
HTC has a private community called Elevate made for its biggest fans. In that community, the company posted a message asking its members to basically fanboy over its phone and argue with internet commenters about the merits of the U11.
In exchange for what is basically being a shill, you might be rewarded with “swag goodies.” The ethics of this move are mixed and we’re sure this move will upset some people. No one wants to see fanboys commenting endlessly about how great a device is, and it’s even worse when they’re being rewarded for it.
Let us know what you think of the situation in the comments. Unless you’re an HTC Elevate user.
Update: It seems that HTC has felt the backlash and is changing the wording of its request. It asks its users to be respectful and has removed the incentive of free swag. Hopefully this stops the flow of people spamming to get free stuff and goes back to normal. For once, regular fanboys defending a product sounds pretty good right now.
