ASUS recently promised that its ZenFone AR would launch at Verizon sometime this summer, and now that time has come.
The ASUS ZenFone AR has arrived at Verizon Wireless. Pricing is set at $0 down and $27 per month, or $648 full retail.
ASUS’s ZenFone AR is the first smartphone to support both Google’s Tango AR and Daydream VR platforms. That means that you can use it to measure your living room and preview some furniture in there one minute, and then the next minute you can dive into an immersive virtual reality game.
When it comes to specs, the ASUS ZenFone AR features a 5.7-inch 2560×1440 AMOLED display and an 8-megapixel wide angle camera on its face. Around back there’s a triple camera setup: a 23-megapixel camera with laser autofocus for taking photos, a motion tracking camera to let the phone track its motion in space, and a depth-sensing camera for measuring distance from objects.
Inside the ZenFone AR’s body lives a Snapdragon 821 processor, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a microSD slot for adding more storage. There’s also a 3300mAh battery that you recharge over USB-C.
It’s nice to see the ASUS ZenFone AR finally launch at Verizon launch after debuting back in January. The selection of phones that are compatible with Tango or Daydream are still pretty slim, and the arrival of the ZenFone AR helps to expand the selection of devices on both platforms.
